Has anyone sent their child to Lighthouse Christian Academy or Hilltop Christian School? I'd love to hear your experiences! Lighthouse is small and is on Sanders Rd, moving to Old fairground...Hilltop is in Fuquay
Hilltop is wonderful!!!! My neice and nephew attend it. Lighthouse does not use "teachers". Basically from my research on it, it's the same as homeschooling. They don't have to use licenced teachers. Hilltop teachers have teaching degrees. Most come from South Eastern Bible college in Wendell.
Most Christian schools don't have "licensed teachers." But that doesn't mean that they don't have good, caring, committed teachers. Hilltop used to be a "pace school." I don't know if it still is or not. In other words, it's a lot like homeschooling too....the student works at his/her own pace and is in one room with students of all different ages.
No, Hilltop used to be a pace school. Now it uses the "Traditional classroom" with separate grades/teachers. They give reasons why in the latest school newsletter http://www.hilltopchurch.com/school/chargerreport.pdf Basically 1) for a better English education and better prep for college classes and 2) because not all children can learn on their own (which independent work is the basis of PACEs) Hilltop does use PACEs for some electives and "make up" class work. I never meant to say that "unlicensed" teachers were any less dedicated or caring. My opinion is that the ABEKA curriculum and the teaching standards at Hilltop are very challenging and well worth it. As far as Lighthouse being like homeschooling...when I called and asked about it to check it out when they opened a few years ago it appeared to me that it was more like paying someone to homeschool. Which is great if you like that. I prefered more structure.
I don't know where you live exactly or what price range you're looking for, but North Raleigh Christian Academy is probably the best in the triangle area. Wake Christian Academy (just down the road from Hilltop) is also very good. If you have an elementary child, then Cape Fear Christian Academy (Coats/Erwin) is good, but they don't offer a lot as far as computer/art/music/foreign language, etc. And I would not send my child to Middle School nor High School there. Good Luck!!!
I second this! We will probably enroll our daughter at Wake Christian, due to my husband attend Hilltop (granted it was 13 years ago) and thought it was was a fine school, but not great! Wake Christian seems to have a larger amount of children and they have a better variety of activities such as sports, drama, and things like this compared to Hilltop (at least to us they did)! If we lived closer to North Raleigh then we would choose this school but Wake Christian seems to be a great school and we plan to enroll our daughter there next year (unless I get rich and can quit my job then drive our daughter to North Raleigh Christian lol!!! )
Does anyone know if any of htese Christian schools take special needs children? Just curious. Years ago we checked out all the private schools and none took special needs. It was about 3 to 4 years ago though since I last checked. Just curious if any of you knew if this had changed. Also, what are the prices like for schools like these? Thanks. Stephanie--mom to 7
I honestly am not sure about the special needs, but the prices are about $400 - $475 a month depending on the school and the age!
