So sis is coming down next week and wants to go to the beach. I have NO idea which beach or a decent, reasonably priced hotel to stay at for a night or two. We've only gone to the beach twice in the last 6 years, and those were just day trips. Doesn't need to be fancy, just clean and either on the beach or within a short walking distance. I'm scared of booking a dive over the internet, which is what happened to me in the spring when I had to stay at Myrtle Beach. Anyone have a favorite? I've searched the threads, but the only hotel recommendation I saw was over $200 a night and that ain't happening!

Try the Blockade Runner in Wrightsville Beach, or book a chain hotel, like a Holiday Inn. Usually won't have too much trouble with those. This time of year, all of them will be well over $100 a night. Also, Atlantic Towers in Carolina Beach is a nice place that will rent per day, unlike a lot of beach houses/condos.

    Good luck!

If you're going to Myrtle Beach, try the Tropical Winds. Very nice hotel, but not outrageous in price. Just south of the Swamp Fox roller coaster. They should be online... www.tropicalwinds.com ...and they have at least two pools and a small lazy river. Plus, you get visitation privaleges at the Captain's Quarters (two hotels down), which has a bowling alley and a rec room.

If you want a good place to eat that's reasonable, try Sir John's on the Kings Highway beside the MB Post Office. Its family-owned locally and they have lived in Myrtle Beach for at least three decades.

If you go to Carolina Beach, we usually stay (when we aren't camping) at Cabana Suites. It is right next door to the boardwalk and all the restaurants, shops etc and they will rent for just one or two nights. They have always been clean and the staff always helpful. It is oceanfront with a great balcony:-D

LOL! I don't even live over that way, I'm near Archer's Lodge. I can't even remember how I stumbled on this website. But I've been hooked a long time now.

I second the Blockade Runner. Great place to stay. If you have 4x4 take the family to Freeman park while there. Definately the best spot to hit the beach, and you dont have to lug lawn chairs, etc.

Just please remember to deflate your tires and then re-inflate once done on beach.

Blockade runner is my fav too -- they are in the process of selling out as individual condos but the buyer has the option to keep renting out the room to others --

Emerald Isle is a great family beach too -- just a different direction and bit further down the road than wrighstville -- more public access to the beaches than wrightsville

My buddy found out the hard way about the tires.. I didnt think anything about it, I guess I assumed he knew but took his f-250 Super duty diesel out on the beach and was fine on the way out there but coming back a couple days later he got stuck and his reaction was press the gas which pretty much bottomed him out in the sand but as soon as we deflated his tires he rose right up out of the sand.
