My family and I are planning to visit the Tweetsie park and spend a night in Blowing Rock area. Know any good place to stay for a night? Cabin, campground, motel, or anything would be fine. Thanks.
Gosh, that brings back memories! We took our grandson there, oh, probably 16, 17 years ago (he's 21 now) and it was the most fun! Sorry, can't even remember where we stayed, and it's probably not the same after all these years anyway, but you will enjoy the visit. Have fun!
CakePrincess: sorry, but I can't help on accomodations since the last time I stayed in the area was in a private condo compliments of a business acquaintance of my wife, but I can recommend a few places to visit if you have time: 1. Downtown Blowing Rock is fun with the short main drag that includes the town park, shops, restaurants, Library, and especially the Fudge store and a smaller version of the Mast General Store. 2. The Blowing Rock itself. It's worth the entry fee. The view is outstanding. 3. Mystery Hill just around the corner on the outskirts of Boone. It's been there for ages and looks like a little "hole in the wall tourist trap". I went there as a kid and loved it. Took my daughter and her schoolmate last year and we all had a blast. My wife couldn't go into the special room where it appears that objects "roll up hill" and it looks like you're standing sideways, etc. Messed up her equilibrium. 4. Linville Caverns. Great tour inside looking at God's handiwork and how water can carve out some beautiful creations. Here's where you see what it's like in total darkness when the guide turns out the light for a few seconds. My wife got to the entrance of the caverns and had to turn back. Chicken Little. 5. Drive the Linn Cove Viaduct around Grandfather Mtn. An engineering masterpiece of a roadway that kept the natural beauty of the mountain and offers a great view at the same time. 6. And of course, Grandfather Mtn, itself, and the "mile high" swinging bridge. Enjoy your trip and have a save and blessed journey. Kent
Wow, thanks, Kent! I just printed this out, as I would like to take it with me for our trip. This sounds like fun and I'm sure my family will enjoy it. Again, thanks!
We went to Blowing Rock two year ago and stayed in some cabins that were SUPER NICE!!! The name of them where Boones Country Cabins, not sure what price you are looking for but here is the website......... http://www.boonescountrycabins.com/
CakePrincess: I found a pic of my daughter and her best bud on the "swinging bridge" on top of Grandfather Mtn. Just the drive alone up Grandfather is great fun with the winding roads. When I was in Jr. High, my class took a trip to Grandfather on a big bus. The driver thought he could drive the whole way to the top, and as the country song goes, "What was he thinking!!" He got almost to the top and couldn't make one of the hairpin turns and had to BACK BACK DOWN to a turnaround. That was some experience. If you watch the Forrest Gump movie, one of the scenes where Hanks is running across the USA has him running up the road to Grandfather Mtn. Kent
That's a very pretty scenic picture, Kent. We can't wait to go there soon. GarnerGirl - I will check the cabin website. Thanks!
Just went there for Thomas the Train. Several good hotel options, all within a short drive: Failrfiled Inn & Suites Hampton Inn Holiday Inn Express. I have personally stayed at these cabins, very nice Roaring River Chalets: http://www.rrchalets.com/
We LOVE the Blowing Rock area. I highly recommend Chetola Lodge (http://www.chetola.com) in Blowing Rock. We have stayed there twice, once in the condos and once in the lodge. Both times the stay was excellent and the service wonderful. The grounds are beautiful with a large pond including paddleboats. They have kids activities, an indoor pool, great views and it is very close to downtown Blowing Rock. It is a little pricey, but they do have some summer condo specials: (http://www.chetola.com/GreatSummerSpecialsfromChetolaResortatBlowingRock_003.htm) . When we stayed in the condo, we shared a 4 bdrm unit with 2 other families so it was not cost prohibitive. You can walk to the Tanger outlets from the main lodge and Tweetsie is just down the road about 10 minutes. I second Kent's attraction recommendations. Be sure to go to the mini-zoo on Grandfather mountain. It is a very pretty animal habitat with a nice museum as well. I also recommend the Linville Falls hike. It is not difficult and the falls are beautiful. Pack a lunch to eat while watching the falls. There are also some good stocked trout ponds in and around Blowing Rock. The Mellow Mushroom in Blowing Rock ( 155 Sunset Dr, Blowing Rock, NC 28605) has good pizza (I like it much better then the location in Raleigh). There is a quaint restaurant called Knight's on Main that we always go to at least once when in Blowing Rock. It is not much to look at from the outside but the kids love it and the menu has tons to choose from. The food is good and reasonably priced. Here is the info: Knights on Main 870 Main Street Blowing Rock, NC 28605-0830 Telephone: 828-295-3869 Web: www.knightsonmainrestaurant.com Have a great trip!
We were at Tweetsie about 6 weeks ago. We stayed at Boone KOA. Although we have a camper, there were several cabins there - some larger than the others. It wasn't the most scenic place but it was quiet, friendly, and a nice location. They have a small pool and a playground and it's not too far from a lot of restaurants and businesses.
WOW I was getting ready to tell you about these places, I have a friend that stayed their for their honeymoon and had a great time!! Nice place to stay!!
Thanks, GarnerGirl. I just happened to browse Blowing Rock's chamber of commerce website and they have a long list of lodging. Bear Den is one of them.
We just came back from there and we stayed at Cliff Dwellers Inn. It was great. 2 miles from Tweetsie. They also sold us our tickets at the hotel for a discount.
Us too We're planning on going to that area soon as well. We found a place with good reviews in Blowing Rock and the family package included tickets for Tweetsie, GF Mtn, as well as a picnic for 4 people. I'll attach the link. http://www.hemlockinn.net/family.html
I went to school at Appalachian State and when my family would come visit we would always stay in one of the cabins in the Hawk's Nest/Seven Devils area. It was with Foscoe Reality and their cabins are beautiful and have great views!
