If you like gambling, the Sun Cruz Casino, and another boat goes out of Little River two times a day.
Let me know if you want to know more about Daytona - I've lived there for more than 20 years and just moved here last year.
I can now say I have been to MB 4 times in my 42 years on this earth. Once as a teenager, once as a rock and roll chick in the 80's to see a show at the Magic Attic (you remember that place, right?) and twice last week for Mustang Week. I can't even imagine spending anymore time than the 1/2 day in that place. The only thing that made it different than say Fayetteville or Jacksonville, was there wasn't a booby bar on every corner, and even if there were, how would you know? I was sure happy to get back to 'a whole lot of nothing' in Oak Island. I commend all of you who enjoy that endless highway of 'stuff'. Oh, but the food and beer at Hooter's was outstanding.
Good to know!! I only like to go for the shopping! When we go we dont stay in the middle of everything either I like to stay at Cherry Grove where there is no action And I agree with the "boring" beaches like my home at Atlantic I wouldnt trade anything for it!!!!
I can see the shopping thing (of course, I'm a chick, right?) But to take my kids down there for 'vacation'....I just can't even imagine. I heard that Cherry Grove is far enough away from all the madness....thank goodness. I couldn't believe it, I tell ya.
Oh yea it is far away and quiet I dont have any kids and if I did there would be no way in hell I would be taking them down there!
OK, I've only been once in the spring, it was freezing cold. DS had an overnight trip to Ripley's Aquarium. We are going in a couple weeks to stay at a campground on the beach with a lazy river. How is this not family freindly? Am I missing something? I certainly wouldn't go down there during bike week or anything.
I was not trying to get anyone upset, just saying that place (the main drag) is INSANE. And that I have no desire to go back. Not my cup of tea. I am sure there are some great places there for families. Has to be, for all dem folks to be there! Oh and I mentioned how good the food and beer were at Hooter's after the Mustang Show.
It just depends on how old your kids are and where all you go. I mean I dont like South Myrtle at all its full of grungy people and bad things in their stores!
I'm not upset, I just don't want to be taking my kid somewhere he ought not to be. I assumed the main drag was crazy, after driving through it in the spring, but I just wanted to know if there were other areas I need to avoid. You made it sound like all of it was nuts. 8)
You are not missing anything kdc. With most vacation spots, there are family friendly venues and also inappropriate places to bring children. Myrtle Beach is no different. We have thoroughly enjoyed both our visits with the girls and have not seen anything inappropriate. North Myrtle and Broadway at the Beach are great places to go. We have seen none of the nasty things others have mentioned. We always avoid the main drag and go on the beach at our hotel. We choose shows and restaurants that are clearly not Hooters-type places. Any responsible parent can have a wonderful, safe and child appropriate vacation at Myrtle Beach. Plan ahead, find out what is available and have a great time!
That's the one! I just made some online reservations last night. Then I got worried today, LOL! Thanks for clearing that up!
Thanks Frugal, the place was DEAD in the spring, although you'd have to live under a rock not to know what goes on during Bike Week. Since we don't go there, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting us into trouble!
Pardon Me....I must have misread, I didn't see or read any post that someone said anything 'nasty' or referred to 'nasty places'....oh wait....just did. And KDC, sounds like you found the perfect campground for you and your family. With a 'lazy river' even!!! Like everyone said (many many times too) we were all referring to the 'main drag'.
Myrtle Beach is the typical used and abused wart on the shoreline. I think the city is making an effort to revitalize itself. Next year the first Hard Rock amusement park opens in Myrtle Beach as will the new "urban village" in Withers Plantation which will include P. F. Chang's, Banana Republic, Chico's, Coldwater Creek, Williams Sonoma, Brooks Bros., Tommy Bahama Cafe, Orvis and Pottery Barn among others. As for Daytona Beach...after the races what is there???
Have you reserved a golf cart?? That place is pretty large. On weekends, at night, on the main street in the campground it's just like Benson used to be on the weekends! Only there are all golfcarts instead of cars!! Those teenagers (and older adults  were having a ball). My kids are older but they still have a blast when we go there. We only left the campground about 3 times the week we stayed. What area are you staying in?? Brenda
