  1. We're wanting to take a weekend trip to Charleston, SC in September. Any ideas on where to stay, things to do, restaurants? Thank you.

Restaurants that was pretty good to me are Charleston Chops and 82 Queens. What to do is shop and have late night walks on the strip.

PLEASE go on a carriage ride, this will provide the most interesting facts about the history of Charleston, early residents, their houses, what the houses are selling for...this is awesome I think it is about $20 per person but you will not be disappointed

The place to shop is King Street -- the place to stay is The Meeting Street Inn and the place to eat is Magnolias. A web site to get lots of info is www.CharlestonInsidersGuide.com -- have fun.

Go to Jestine's Kitchen on Meeting Street. It's a little place that is easy to miss. Also try the Mus-My Friend Seed in Mount Pleasant. It's in a strip mall. I would recommend the Mus-My Friend Seed for lunch, that's all I've ever had there. We've eaten at Jestine's Kitchen for dinner, it's good southern style cooking. Also, if you like ribs, try Sticky Fingers, on Meeting Street also. Probably the best ribs I've ever had!

I definitely would recommend a carriage ride, too. They do it on a lottery, so each ride is different.

I know we are getting ready to take the kids for a long weekend. I haven't been in a year, so I've been searching for "new" things to do.

I'm planning on taking them on the historic carriage ride(that never gets old) and will take them downtown shopping in the "market".

I still haven't been to any of the plantations, even though I'm a history buff. Has anyone been and is it worth the expense?

    Here are some suggestions:

we went recently and REALLY treated ourselves and stayed at the renaissance hotel
it was way more expensive then we usually pay but well worth it
we didn't have to drive anywhere because it was located right in the middle of everyting

the carriage ride was cute and fun
there's a bar i think it was called henry's we liked that too, relaxed and layed back and mostly everyone was in our age group which was nice (30's)

we dined at mercado's (italian )which is along the city market on the left side
the food was made with fresh ingredients you could taste it
and the set up was nice modern/contemporary and opened for less than a year

we aslo ate at another italian restaurant it was along king st i don't remember the name but it was a little after saks fifth ave on the same side of the street, near a big antique store, the building was painted white and when you go inside you have to walk down a hallway
you wouldn't really think you are going into a restaurant. we got a little confused
but this place the guy was off the boat italian and the food was out-of-this-world!!!!!!!
it is a little whole in the wall and it has a black and white sign with a mini italian flag over it
he said 90% of his business is the locals he doesn't rely on tourists
    that says a lot!!!!

i hope this helps but definately try that restaurant i hope you find it

We stayed at Shepard's Creek Inn. Pretty cheap and there's three or four restaurants w/n walking distance.

Magnolia plantation was good. The gulla presentation was the best. I was kind of interested in Gulla stuff. The only thing I had heard about gulla before was on a law and order episode.

i went there a few months ago for my wedding anniversary. If you stay anywhere downtown in the historic district, you will pay for it. I think my room was over 220 dollars a night at the Francis Marion Hotel. It is well worth it to pay the extra dollars because it is a main in the arse getting from the outskirts to downtown in terms of traffic.

some good restaurants to try out is sticky fingers, queen 82, magnolias, and a few others I can remember.

the aquarium is a waste to money to me. I believe ripleys in myrtle beach is 10x better than that place.

I went to Magnolia planatation and it was pretty nice. they have a nice little petting zoo for the kids

Being from South Carolina. I would say Rainbow Row is my favorite because I am a historical homes nut too. And i will definitely second the carriage rides and evening walks down the strip. Very relaxing and enjoyable. If you still aren't sure where you want to stay let me know I have alots of family there and all over South carolina so if I don't know I can be sure they do. LOL. And don't forget if you like shrimp and grits to try Shrimp Grits and Gravy or Frogmore Soup. Both are excellent dishes and Charleston favorites. Have fun and if you need any help feel free to pm me anytime.
