We are going to spend a few days in the Asheville area sometime in August and I would love to hear your recommendations for lodging. We are looking for a moderately priced, safe hotel - not in the Grove Park Inn/Biltmore range. Chains are fine (like Hampton etc) as long as they are clean and safe.
    Thanks for any help.

i recently was there and stayed in the hampton inn -- found it to be very clean -- great breakfast -- staff very helpful in terms of how to get around -- where there were good places to eat etc. -- i believe there are 2 in the area -

Hampton Inn Asheville - I-26 Biltmore Square 1 Rocky Ridge Road, Asheville, North Carolina, USA 28806

Thanks Ken and sassy! I will check out both.

The Country Inn & Suites I-26 on Tunnel Road has good recent reviews from TripAdvisor. Anyone stay there in the last 6 months?

I always try to stay at the Renaissance Hotel on Woofdin Street. From there you can walk to just about any type of restaurant, bar or a downtown store. They have an indoor pool and a workout room.
