Anyone been to Cooperstown, NY? Great grandmother lives about 1.5 hrs away & we need something else to do (Day Trip) while up that way to visit family.

We are looking for some first hand -"I've been there" experiences.

    Thanks.

I was there years ago in the winter. The baseball hall of fame is a must for any baseball fan, it is a long exhibit. Cooperstown itself is a great little town with lots of shops and things to do. I really enjoyed my visit.

    COOPERSTOWN

A visit to the Cooperstown area is definately for the ultimate baseball fan. Almost 100% of everything in the area is baseball related. But...that said, there are a few things to do that don't involve baseball.

There's a Farm Museum that you can kill an afternoon in and there's an Art Museum. A state of the art Golf Course (Leatherstockings) and a lake that is accessible for water sports.

The town of Oneonta is about 20 miles away and has a nice downtown with boutique type shopping.

That's basically it. If you're going for the Dreampark experience-take plenty of reading for the downtime between games.

on the way up or back I don't think the Crayola factory is too far out of the way. I hear that is real cool for kids.

The Hershey factory is about another hour from there.

I am not sure where in PA these 2 are in relation to your planned trip up or back, but it might be fun.

My husband is from Binghamton and I'm from Johnson City (neighboring town). Been to Cooperstown - great place, there is the Farmer's Museum, Glimmerglass Lake. In Binghamton, stop by Rec Park to ride the carousel (there are actually 6 or 7 in the county that are still running. Stop by Lupo's for some Spiedies. Depending on when you go, the balloon fest is this weekend I believe. There is always Watkins Glen - the falls are running (was there last weekend). Don't forget Howes Cavern is about an hour from Binghamton. Syracuse Zoo is much better than Ross Park. Hope you have a great time. (Take a sweatshirt for the evening/early morning. Last week we woke up on Sunday and it was only 56 degrees)

Small world. It's my husband's Grandmother (son's great-grandmother), along with his aunt/uncle and some cousin's that we are planning to visit. They live in Vestal and run the Skylark Diner on Vestal Pkwy (in front of the HS), but Grandma used to own Walter's Diner in Johnson City- across from the old GE plant- I think the diner lot now has an Aldi Grocery store on it.

We've been to the Ross Park zoo- which was nice, and we definitely know about Spiedie's (YUM!) as well as Watkins Glen- DH has actually driven on track there a couple of times at speed!!

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!!

Yes, the Spiedie Fest is there this weekend as well, friends of mine are going up for that.

Have a ball!!! (No pun intended if going to Cooperstown)

I'll take Lupo's - Lemon and Garlic mardinade. We stop each time to pick up several gallons.
