I just asked my mom and my dad took clantix, oh I forgot I made a typo yesterday my dad is in his 60's and started smoking when he was 18. It took him 4 months to quit going slowly he was a chain smoker 2 to 3 packs a day and would wake up at night to smoke as well. So if it worked for him I am sure it will work for others. Good Luck
I believe the medicine is chantix.Works quite well from what I am told but insurance doesnt cover it.Runs around $100 a month depending where you get it.
I stopped cold turkey Sunday at 1:34 pm. I know I can do it, because I did 14 years ago and only started back smoking in the last 8 months. I already smell so much better!
Must be the carrier type of BCBS. I knew someone who has BCBS of Kansas City and they wouldnt cover any of it. Insurance is such a scam.
It is a rip. But his is thru the state health plan, he is retired now but it seems to be pretty good.
I'm currently taking Chantix too. I've been on it for 3 months so far. It has taken a while for it to kick in with me as well. I quit for 5 days earlier on it but went back right back to smoking...all the while taking the Chantix. Now I am happy to say I am exactly 2 weeks smoke free!!!! Taking this medicine seems to really keep my mind off of smoking. I just don't really think about it a lot. It took me 3 months of taking it but maybe finally I can stick to this. Like you, SB, I smell better too!! Now if I could just slip some Chantix in my DH's tea every day. :-D Mom2, how long has your dad been on the Chantix? Is he still taking it?? Brenda
"Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times." --Mark Twain
I think he is going on 3 months, it took almost 2 before he quit all together, I think my mom said he would stay on it for another month and then start coming off it slowly..
I have smoked for around 30 years, quitting for about 5 years total in three different attempts. I smoke about a pack a day. I just started Chantix for the second time today. Have tried it once before. Stopped smoking after about 7 days when realizing I was down to about two cigs a day. I discontinued taking the pills after the three month period. About one month later I was smoking again. This time I will stay on it a little longer, probably 6 months. Doc says some people need to stay on it a bit longer than the “average” 3 months. I have United Healthcare and they pay for Chantix. It costs me $35 per month. I never thought I would, but I am using acupuncture in conjunction with the Chantix. It does make me a little nervous as it is such a new drug and I am on my second attempt using it. But I need help quitting; it is as simple as that. The Mark Twain quote make me giggle, this is my 7th attempt!!! I am determined, this time it will be for good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SB and Bren... I am thrilled for both of you!! SB, you can't be that "casual smoker"! You are both going to be so glad you quit! ~Smoke free since 01/30/06~
I was that casual smoker for a long time, but then with stress, etc. it developed into more. Now if I can just start exercising again..all would be good!
