i know there have been threads for doctor recommendations and i did a thread search to see if i could find some recommendations but -- didn't -- i am NOT looking for a ob/gyn -- i would like to find an internist or gp who is sensitive to midlife changes -- i guess it really doen't matter in the end if it is a he or she but want someone to take time and ask questions and to listen to the answers!! am willing to go to raleigh but would prefer to stay closer to home...

I love my Dr at Horizon Family Medicine on 42 in Clayton. There are two doctors there - Harris is mine and my children's, Williams is my husbands. We've never had a bad experience there at all, and they are both very down to earth. Both are men, but the Nurse Practitioner is female. Their number is 359-1011, hope this helps. Good luck!

Dr. Steven Turner, Garner Internal Medicine. Great practice. Two other Board Certified Internal Medicine Physicians, Dr. Karen Mayer and Dr. Jeffrey Breiner. James McCann, the very best P.A. Located in White Oak Shopping Center.

I've been seeing Dr. Maria Fakadej at Duke Health of Clayton for many years... really like the practice. They are located in that big building on 70 across the road from the shiny diner. 550.6133

I've heard lots of wonderful things about Dr. Williams. Is it hard to get appointments at that practice? Can you get same day sick appointments?

Anyone have more suggestions? For just a family practice, other than shaik...he was horrible....IMO.

I too, see Dr. Fakadej (pronounced Fa-cah-dee), an internist, and really like her. She is so easy to talk with - she seems to really listen to me. I go to her Clayton practice, but believe she also sees patients in Smithfield.

We've never had a problem getting appts, I don't know about new patients though. I believe as far as their sick appts go, they say to call early in the morning and they'll tell you what they have available. But I've never had a problem with my kids getting in. Once my son was very sick, I called in the middle of the day and they let him come in at 5 pm! I was shocked, didn't think they'd take someone that late. It's a good thing I did too, he had scarlett fever! My husband loves Dr Williams, he sees my mother-in-law also so knows all the family history, and she loves him too. They are both very personable, we actually moved there from another dr we were seeing in Cary that let us down a couple times...They will not recommend medicine if you don't need it, and I think they are very honest about your diagnosis.

AL- she has closed the office in Smithfield and only sees patients in Clayton now, which is good for me since I am closer to Clayton :)

I too see Dr. Williams at Horizon and have had good experiences too. He is a very genuine guy and very down to earth. My whole family sees them too. So far, we have not had any trouble either getting in on the same day. good luck.

Dr. Marjorie Merod. She is in Raleigh, beside Rex. and is a GYN. she dropped the OB part. She is fabulous with female 'changes'. I highly recommend.

I also see Dr. Harris at Horizon. We really like him a lot and we have never had any problems getting appointments there. He has been great in helping me with controling my heart flutters and such. Great people there.
