Well, if they have a well it's their right to use it. I didn't say it was the right thing for them to do, but they could have paid and had it put in really really deep, so they could do this in times of drought.
Well or no well, there is a drought. Anyone not volunteering to conserve water needs a reminder that their neighbors might want to drink water and shower more than he needs green grass to admire.

This is what I don't get, this summer has been so dry and people wasting water on their yards . I love my yard but I am not going to waste water when its this dry . But, I guess everyone has priorities green grass maybe more important than a clean a** to some. lol

Drilled or bored doesn't matter. My well was drilled to 30 feet. Many of the wells in this area are shallow wells because the contractor stopped at the minimum gpm requirement. Around here in times other than a drought that is shallow.
this area is fairly wet, too. i'm from northern wake county, where the red mud is everywhere. down here the land is generally a little lower. sandy topsoil is 3 feet deep at my place before you get to the clay. and there's very few swamps in north raleigh, but there's one right across the road from my house only a few hundred feet away. swampier, lower, and all-around wetter down this way. oh, i guess my point is that most wells down here should be fine unless they are abused. edited to add this map which shows that this area is kind of the line where the piedmont turns into the coastal plain
grrr we are getting sediment in the toilets after the power had been off. Looked in the tanks only to find they are almost covered with it. When it gets bad we use a shop vac... but I know it's only a matter of time. We DIDN'T hook up with city water when they came through and I hear it's a pretty hefty price to have it done after the fact. :?

Looks like that to me, for the western half of the county, to where Middle Creek joins Swift Creek and flows into the Neuse River. Does this mean you're in the Piedmont and I'm in the coastal plain? :-D
