http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/dogwhisperer/ Anyone been watching him? #1. Oprah made him famous #2. He knows his stuff #3. I normally think that kind of stuff is BS, but really, he knows his stuff  This family had a Blue Heeler who would *nip* people on yesterday and he fixed the problem in about 3 minutes.
I love me some Cesar Milan (sp?) !!! I thought it was BS too, till I've watched a bunch of his shows. I think it is amazing. Wish I'd known about him when I had my Sheltie, she would have been a prime candidate for her incessant barking!
We've done pretty good with training our pets. Shelby (never bit anyone, but will bark at you - partially deaf now :-( ) Mattie (deaf- but we do our own version of *sign language* to her  ) Hunter - DH's first dog he ever got. Smartest dog I ever knew. Would get you a beer out of the fridge (as long as you don't mind dog slobber on your beer) When we were training him to do that we forgot to take the rope off the fridge, came home to a backyard full of beer cans   Looked like him and Shelby had a party. He got hit by a car in Wilmington :-(
Me too! I LOVE Ceasar. DH just rolls his eyes and laughs at me when I watch:roll: . My kids love to watch him too and I think that's a good thing. Except, one day at T-ball practice, my 5yo ds was watching a lady try to get her wild little pup to calm down. He told her she really needed the "Dog Whisperer" Ooops!
Ya know what I love about the Dog Whisperer and Dr. Phil? They BOTH offer solutions that are common sense after you think about them. The only difference between the two, is that Cesar thinks like a dog (as one has to think when they deal with DWI's -dogs with issues) which helps any dog to be able to be happy just being a dog. Most of his advice is not rocket science - you understand what is setting the dog off, or causing whatever problem you're having, as the dog sees the situation, then you use a mixture of taking the alpha role, calmness, persistence, and good old common sense and bam, you're on your way to settling your problem. As I said in the digging dog post - why does a dog dig? Hmmm, is he looking for something buried? Is he bored? Is he stressed? Those are the reasons dogs dig. . .unless they're re-incarnations of landscapers and want to give the yard a face lift  (just kidding) Remove their access to where they have been digging, so they don't go back to the habit, give them something else to do, like chew, and tire their doggie butts out a bit, so they don't have all kinds of energy bottled up and look for a way to express it.
We once had a highly skilled trainer tell us to watch the show muted to really learn from it. Works. Try it.
