I was wondering how many hours of sleep do most people get each night ? I was told by my Doctor that I am not getting enough sleep at night. I sleep about 5 to 6 hours a night. I was told 8 to 9 is what most people get. So how long do you sleep?

I go to bed about 11:30 ,12:00 and get up at 5:00 On weekends I sleep til about 8:00

Depends on the kids, what is on tv and um well other things. Usually in bed at 10:30 and up by 4:45. So.....I must not be getting enough either. Coffee helps! :-D

The average adult is lucky to get 6. I agree with koo, sleep is highly over rated. I get 5-6, generally. get me a nap on the weekends if I am lucky.

Insomnia Queen here... I can sit up til 3 easy, and get up at 7. I grew up thinking it was NORMAL for some one to lay in bed at least an hour before they could fall asleep.

...that prolly explains the grouchiness and moodiness. :p

Sleep periods vary from person to person. Some only need 5 to 6, others need 10 to 11 (or more!). What tells you if you're sleeping enough is how tired you are during the day.

Personally, if I get 7 to 8 hours, I'm good. I'm a programmer, so I have been known to get by for a week or two on just a couple hours a night during crunch time, but when the crunch is over, I'll sleep for 14 to 16 hours straight.

Ditto. On the weekends I do usually get 8 hrs on Friday and Sat. nights, because I don't have to get up at 5 am~!

 except for the programming part, you sound like DH! I timed him once years ago as he was coming off 2nd shift- 18 hours he slept! I wish I could sleep that good.

If I get more than 6-7 hours I'm miserable and worn out the next day. I'm usually in bed about 11pm and usually up between 6-6:30am but that is not stright sleep either as I am usually up sometime in the middle of the night between 3-4.

there is no way in 'haydee's' I could lay down for that long, much less sleep. I would feel like I had wasted so much time.

Me too, unless I'm really really sick and on some serious medication that makes me sleep. If I lay around much, it makes me sore! I wish I could be lazy like a lot of my friends, but I've got to be doing something!

I have always been a night owl and the Little One seems to be following in my footsteps. She, however, really does need between 9 and 10 hrs of sleep. I don't. If I go to bed before midnight (unless I'm really draggin), I'll be awake for hours tossing.

During the week, I go to bed anywhere between midnight and 2 a.m. and get up around 7. Weekends I go to bed anywhere between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., and get up by 10. Some weekends my sleep catches up with me. I'll pass out around 10 and not get up until 11 the next morning. That happens about once/mth.

So...what is that? An average of 5 hrs/night during the week and 7 hrs/night on the weekends?

I usually get 6-7 hrs (11-12pm-6am), and I always have to take Tylenol PM to get sleep.
Weekends...I'm lucky if I can sleep til 8:30, I wake up early and usually end up gettin on up. No naps....can't stand em (guess thats from my childhood  ) DH gets more sleep at night AND takes naps all the time, wimp!
