I always loved the story where his trainer kept delaying his requests for "nut" during an exhibition and he finally got exasperated and spontaneously spelled it out for her, "n-u-t, nut!"

He was amazing. I would bet his trainers are really feeling the loss.

I know I would and I got a little upset just reading about it. Being in the Parrot world we often talked about Alex alot..so it hit some of us a little too, I can't even think what it did to the ones that worked with him all day.

i was so sad at his passing, he finally proved to the world that parrots were not just mimics and they really knew what they were saying like both of mine do - they really understand us and answer our questions and ask for what they want. Alex led the field but he was so young to pass away:cry:

You are so right, I wonder what he passed from? I know it takes a couple of days or so to find that out, and they may never even tell.
Kaci, I didn't know you had parrots, or maybe I did and my old age made me forget. What do you have again?

Hey Sheri, i have two parrots at the moment (have been known to take in rescues and rehome quite a bit in the past) but these two i have raised from birth pretty much.

Luci is a 3yo Green Wing Macaw and Indi is a 4yo Blue Crown Conure - they are both female and a big part of our family.

I have a blue crown conure, Paulie..my baby of a little over 3 yrs. They are great birds. I know several of my friends that would love to have a green wing, they are wonderful macaws, I hope one day down the road a ways to be owned by blue troated macaw, I have a photo of me holding one a couple of yrs ago, but I don't like the photo of ME! lol. Right now with 6 birds, I'm good for a long, long time!

i can relate - at any given time i have numerous birds in my home but those two are mine permanently and with the room they take up, don't have room for anymore permanent members of our family (the dogs and ferrets take up plenty room too:-D)
