DH loves NC BBQ, I do not. I found two great places that are pretty good if you like tomato based BBQ or vinegar the first is the Q Shack (one in North Hills) and the other is Holly Smokes (Wilmington (70) and Tryon). So no more Smithfield BBQ. Now we can both get what we want from the same resturant.
You should take DH to Stephenson's.....he would forget about those other places. It's the best in this area. and you could have some of the best fried chicken (or BBQ chicken) around too.
Dat what I told her....it's the yummiest ever. by far and I have eaten BBQ all over this Great State.....
I was not a fan of NC bbq until I tried Stephenson's. Love their boiled cabbage too. Now I am on to Lancaster's. It is super scrumptious!
Bill Ellis in Wilson!!! YUMMY! Parkers has been lame the last two times that we ate there Boss Hogs in Greenville in yummy too!
Parker's is good too, no doubt. That place in Goldsboro too....can't think of the name of it.....on the right hand side of 70 heading toward's the beach......oh oh Wilbur's maybe???....that's pretty darn yummy too.
Ummm, wait a minute! B's BBQ in Greenville is some good food! LOL (as long as they do not run out and you are not scared by the buildings apperance) LOL - Yum!!
B's is good no doubt...but to me it's more like eating Pig, like at a pig pickin, than BBQ (all chopped up with some vinegar'y sauce). I had forgot about B's. Dang I am hungry. And if Stephenson's building don't frighten ya, neither will B's.
stephenson's i can't eat. it's like ground instead of pulled or chopped. blech. and their stew didn't impress me, either. jmho, of course, but it's not even in the same league as wilbur's hell, i'd rather eat smithfield's
Wilbur's Barbecue...his barbecue is sooooo good that the pigs volunteer for service. Seriously though, Wilbur's BBQ is about as good as eastern NC BBQ gets. Its very much worth the drive to Goldsboro if you want great barbecue. They cook theirs over wood (oak, I think) and wow does it smell great when its cooking. He's been cooking barbecue for several decades now and he started out working for another late great BBQ'er...Griffin's on George Street in Goldsboro. Griffin's went out of business a long time ago. Parkers is a decent second and Kings and Bills tied for third. One thing about Bill's...he actually raises his own hogs. While I don't give the best barbecue choice to Wilson, I will say that they have the best Brunswick Stew IMO, but remember to ask for hushpuppies or you might get some of those odd-ball Wilson cornsticks that you could build a house out of. They always taste like they're warmed over and hard as a brick. Seriously...make it a point to try Wilburs before giving up on Eastern NC barbecue!!
Send them back and ask for fresh hot cornsticks. You will never order hush puppies in Wilson again. Parkers is the best anyehere when everything is hot like on Sunday at lunch. At other times the food is luke warm and at Parkers that is not good. I had Stephensons tonight. It was good and a lot closer than Wilson.
Yup yup and yum yum on the fresh corn sticks! But I believe one really could build, at least a shed, with the cold ones.
