We came home with a dog from a Benson rescue yesterday (and a cat!):shock: So my question is: I am looking for an outdoor kennel to leave the dog in when I am gone for short times. Is it better to get a larger kennel like 10 or 20 feet long, or is it ok to get a 6 x 6 kennel? He would only be in it for an hour or two at the most. Been looking on craigslist and there are several. I have never had an animal before and would appreciate some input. Thanks!
What kind of dog is it? Oh and Congrats on the doggy and kitty. Did you get a crate for inside the house? Do you plan on keeping the dog outside? Sheri
Here's a tip from the tightest man in Johnston County (or so some think!), You should be able to pick up a used 10'X10'X 6' high portable kennel for $100-$150. Do the math, free-standing this is 100 sq.ft. Use a wall of your house or garage as one side(20').. , use a 10' section on the two ends and join two 10' sections together to run the 20' parallel to wall. Voila!!!, now you have 200sq. ft. for your dog to run. Twice the space with the same fence!
As long as it has a cover over it, for protection from the sun, rain etc... should be fine. Oh and food and water!
I had some good luck and found a chain link kennel measuring 10 x 20 on craigslist and the seller is in Clayton! Now I just have to figure out how to get it home. But I will ask around, or if I need to, rent a small trailer. Ouch! Talk about tight. The less money I have to spend, all the better. And that is a great idea about using a wall. That kennel will be big enough for the lawn mower. The dog is a golden retriever/australian shepherd/spaniel. He is very cute and three years old. Wish I could insert a pic.

Oh, and I do have a kennel cage for inside the house. I plan to use that when I need to leave and the weather is bad. Otherwise he can in the outside kennel. Luckily someone is home most of the time; I work part time away from the house and do a work from home job. The outside kennel is going into an area that always has some shade and of course there will be food and water!
Hey thanks! That picture was taken at the sanctuary in Benson where we got him. The owner's son is playing with Tahoe. It's a great place; takes in injured and sick animals of all kinds.
