I don't know what I'm doing wrong, do you guys think I'm asking to much for Rent? I'm asking 425 which includes everything, own bathroom and use of full Kitchen and living room. It is a house on over a acres worth of land..hmmm which I could figure out something to do.

The rent doesn't sound too high.

If I were in your shoes, I'd think about the type of person I wanted living with me. It sounds like having a couple with a child sharing your roof was not the best of situations. I don't know where you live, but there is a chance that you might be able to find a college student (there are many mature, responsible ones out there) - do a posting on a bulletin board - by contacting different colleges, you can get info on the procedure for postings at each individual institution.

DO your checks for references, etc.

Make up a list of 'rules' - don't be too overly picky, but do make certain that you list the things you can not put up with. Have them in black and white and have the people who contact you read them over when you meet with them. Discuss each one and negotiate where it's not too much of a stretch. If you decide to rent to them, have them sign and date two of them - give them one, and you keep one. Have this in addition to your rental agreement and staple them together.

I had room mate headaches many years back - I had one who was a real night owl, she would be out till all hours and come home about 2am with a friend and start cooking in the kitchen. Food smells and pots and pans banging around while I was trying to sleep and had to be up by 5am, nearly drove me nuts. When it was time for a new roommate, I explained clearly that the kitchen was "closed" for cooking between the hours of 9pm and 5:30am. If they were hungry, they'd have to settle for a sandwich. Worked like a charm.

    Good luck to you.

I agree with the background checks and rules, I'm not hard to live with...lol
But, finding someone is the hard part. I'm in the Benson 40/210 area. I haven't even gotten far enough to even do any of the above. Not looking for a partier, cause of my kid..oh well I will keep looking..
    Thanks!

I like Zoo's idea about posting it on a college campus - Campbell is down that way. See if they have a message board to post classifieds or just call down there. Good Luck. I hope I NEVER have to have a roommate EVER again.

Might be too high for a college student. My daughter pays $275 for her apartment in Raleigh (her own bedroom/bathroom and shared living space)

Try the hospitals. I have a friend who is a nurse and says there are alot of nurses needing housing, especially if they are just here for the nurse school.

In spite of most of the stupid movies out there, a good percentage of students are not party animals, at least not after their freshman year. Many students actually work and study during their off-campus time. I shared a home with a woman in her late 40's for a year when I was in school, if she didn't move out of state, I probably would have stayed there longer. With our schedules, we passed each other on our way in and out - maybe had dinner together once a week. Lots of privacy.

This was in the 80's - I was up North - I paid 250.00 a month back then - 1 bedroom apartments were going for over 500.00 so it was a good deal for me.

    Thanks everyone for the tips!

I know I'm being a pain, but thanks for all the tips..it's so hard right now and I have some personal things going on that my ex did, and it's costing more then I can handle right now..if I could do with out a roommate trust me I would. Once the owner of the house moved out it was just me and my daughter and my animals, now to well loose our privacy and a few other things it's not easy for me to have to do this. I'm hoping all I have to do it for is 6 months at the most. I'm working 7 days a week and it's still not enough money. Thanks again everyone!

Hey, girl. The nurse idea is a good one too. Johnston Memorial has a bunch of boards for postings, see if you can put notices there.

    Hang in there!
