Making the arrest at school in front of all of the students, faculty and staff was, and is, in very bad taste. Clearly, it was orchestrated by the Sheriff's department. How else do you just happen to have a photographer on the scene to photograph her being taken out in handcuffs. Never let it be said that our Sheriff will pass up an opportunity to be on the front page or on local television. Most agencies would have elected to make the arrest off campus. It matters little that ultimately she may be found innocent, the damage is done. Especially in the eyes of those little children who may have had to witness their teacher being carried off in handcuffs.
LOL maybe! And went to multiple stores for these sales... Because all the CVS or all the Rite Aids and so on keep track of your count for all their stores on one shared computer system (per chain). So they had a sale at CVS, Rite Aid, Medi Cap and Walgreens I guess and they hit them all up for all the family members!.. LOL and at 96 pills allowed every 10 days per store they must really need a sale!
I personally (my opinion) do not think it was done in bad taste. If you did wrong (where evidence for 3 months piles up against you) and were helping to produce DRUGS then the kids need to see what can happen to you if you do bad things and mess with drugs!?!? From my understanding they did not do it in front of the kids but called her to the office and arrested her but I am not 100% on that part at all?? I guess I just have NO UNDERSTANDING or TOLERANCE for drugs at all and that is why I am for them getting these people off the street. I have seen what drugs can do to you (cousins who chose drugs over their own children, family, jobs and so on) and I just do not like it. Yes I hope the evidence was strong before they did this, because I would hate an innocent person to have gone thru this if they were just "shopping for a good deal" but the law is the law not matter how much we like it. Let the sale end and buy it some where else when it is legal. LOL
Yeah, and the Duke Lacrosse players should have had second thoughts about having a party, right? My point did not address the issue of whether or not she was guilty. That will be determined in a court of law. My problem was with the way the arrest was handled and the damage that can be done by over zealous law enforcement.
Duke Lacrosse having a party versus someone allegedly (with evidence of name and ID given at each sale) is not in the same boat to me... I just did not read that children saw their teacher being arrested, but if she did buy this for drugs I have NO problem with my child seeing this. And yes I do have a child. I want her to know what happens when you do bad things and get messed up with drugs. Two me these are totally different situations.... We are all entitled to our own opinion - you, me and everyone. Just my 2 cents... I do not think it was over zealous this time.
My thought is they issued a warrant and then did there research and it got out to the press.. High profile arrest like this always make the news no matter who you are or what it is.. I also agree I would not care if my child saw this, its a good lesson for them to learn you do the crime you do the time.. no if, and or buts about it.
From what I saw on the news they had compiled lists of people that had bought these drugs from different places and on the same date. So it does seem very strange that someone would need so much of this medication and that they would take the time to go all these places in one day. They also said people knew that these store logs were not being watched by one central 'system' so they thought they could get away with it by going to all different stores and buying the max amount allowed at each place. Hope she's innocent, but looks a little fishy to me.
Indeed, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. Have you forgotten that those innocent players were falsely accused of Rape and Kidnapping, kicked out of school and subjected to public censure and ridicule? Just because its in the paper or just because an arrest is made does not mean that it is true. Like you, I to have an opinion and that opinion is that we are all presumed to be innocent under our system of law.
yea but UNLIKE the players they have PROOF that SHE went to the stores and BOUGHT all that SUDAFED!!!
just think the evidence (if true on how and why she was arrested) is different in this case then the Duke case... they had not true evidence from the get go... and that was over zealous people in charge. I agree innocent until proven guilty but if she did this and is guilty then I am fine with children seeing her arrested. All the arrests are public and the news just jumped all on this one.
I'm sorry you are talking about three young men accused of rape and kidnapping, which they all turned themselves in they where not arrested. They should never have been brought up on charges and those that had half a brain knew this and did not even for a minute think they where guilty. We are talking about a teacher who's name is on more than one piece of paper at several pharmacies and buying a OTC that is used to make meth that can harm/kill our children, the ones that she is responsible to teach and set an example for.. this is not the kind of teacher I want in the room with my child.. I agree innocent until proven guilty but until that point in time she has no business in our classrooms/schools.
I have issues with the arrest as it unfolded. If a photographer was at school to get the pics, then someone in the JCSO let them know ahead of time. And this is grandstanding, pure and simple. The arrest could have easily been one where she was told to present herself to the JCSO to be arrested. She doesn't appear to be a flight risk, as she has substantial ties within the community, which is why she is out on bail now. I believe that this is her first year at Polenta, with many as a teacher in JOCO. A far as teaching the kids a lesson, I look at it in a different light. Did you consider how this might affect a child's ability to trust anyone in a position where she was. Does this not affect how these children view the new teacher, or other professionals with whom they come into contact? Raising children these days is more complex than it used to be, at least for me. The challenges that my elementary school child faces, the exposures to societal changes, peer pressure, drugs is far greater than my college age son had. And he would tell you this as well. I believe that most of us would say that our childhood was less pressured and influenced than now. And with the plethora of media coverage, the massive exposure of what the contemporary, popular people are doing, young people have enough difficulty in finding those whose behavior parents find acceptable. I think that the sheriff handled this entirely the way he wanted, to be able to present himself as a tough guy, and simultaneously trying to threaten the criminal element that JOCO, in his words, "ain't" the place to do crime. And, while grandstanding, the community can feel like they have a real "lawman". I do not think that any criminal enterprise is concerned by his admonishment. Nor am I impressed that his words will have any effect. It sounds like a petulant child trying to get noticed. I am more impressed with those who do their jobs, without seeking fanfare. I admire the deputies who place their lives on the line each and every day. I truly respect them and the job they have to do. I believe they deserve solid leadership, which is usually provided by little self promotion or aggrandizement. Truth will find its way out. An effective leader doesn't have to brag or pose. And, IMO, the suggestion that "innocent until proven guilty" is a binary position. One either believes it, or not. There can be no in between. I was taught that when someone makes a statement, qualified by the term "but", the interjection of the word "but" negate the prior statement.
We are suppose to say " Hey honey we noticed you been buying some OTC and wanted you to come in for some questions, what would be a good time for you" lets see " How bout next week, that will give me time to contact my lawyer, my suppliers and come up with a great lie, how does that sound" "rolling eyes"
does it even say who took the pic? or what "media" was there? i mean if it was me and i was dropping my child off at school and saw that id bring out my camera too and start telling everyone!
I think my problem is, if she is guilty, that we had her in a position to push her habit on our children. I know that the world has changed alot since I was a teenager and that my son will face much more then I have ever faced. I want his trust in people to be strong but to also know that people can lie to your face and give you false trust..I think that our children need to know that we as parents are the ones for them to trust the most and give them that sense of security and let them know that there are punishments for breaking the law or rules in general...
funny how the head guy in this meth lab ring thing got busted last week, and this (the teacher) being a direct trickle down of his operation is getting all the attention....how about the 2 kids that were living IN THE METH LAB? Right, wrong or otherwise, this teacher was arrested. Is she guilty? probably. Of what specifically? who knows. Did it get handled in a manner to satisfy everyone? heck no. Do I think she should have gotten arrested in front of the school? absolutely not. I am a parent and I have to explain enough crap about the people we/ they are surrounded by. I am pretty sure the 'authority's' went into the office and pulled her out of the classroom to do the arrest. The fact that the camera was there, and was notified is a whole other issue and quite tacky to boot. Now everyone put their weapons down, straighten your thongs, and proceed. Thank you and goodnight.
