As promised, here is the information regarding public meetings to discuss Growth Concerns with the County Commissioners. Please plan to attend. Meetings are: (as quoted from Berry Gray, JC Planning Director's email): The two so far are on Nov. 6th at 7pm at West Johnston High School and November 15th at 7pm at North Johnston High School. There may be two more scheduled in November but those have not been finalized.
Nov. 6th at 7pm at West Johnston High That's Election Day for the y/n votes on the tax/land transfer deal.
Commissioners OK CLEVELAND, since there seems to be no desire to incorporate and have the ability to control our own growth, WE NEED TO SHOW up at these meetings at let the commissioners know that we are interested in what happens in our area. In particular they need to know that we are getting tired of losing the scenic quality of this area that made us want to live here, and that while growth is in most ways a good thing, enough is enough. If people want to move here fine, but they need to widen the roads, build the schools, and find the water they want to drink. It is getting too crowded around here, and I don't buy the fact that the "Blue Ribbon" commission was looking out for the better good of western Johnston county. Seems to me all they were thinking about was the money that would go in their pockets since almost all of them were connected to the building industry. SHOW UP and voice your concerns!!!
Thanks. We need to keep this at the top, Cleveland needs to be represented, and our opinions need be heard. By the way, any of you who live in Austin Pond, and were at the Planning Board meeting about the Cunningham Tract, this is your chance to get your opinion heard. The commissioners control the growth, and the density of whatever growth happens. If I remember right, AP residents were upset because the new subdiv would be built at a higher density than AP. I was there for other reasons, and I remember the chair of the PB asking where you were when they were holding the first round of Growth Mgmt. meetings? I went to one of those and it was one builder/realtor after another fighting against the Growht Mgmt. plan. Well they kept it from being adopted, and managed to get the study committee made up of people like themselves. This is your, and anyone else who has a problem with how JC is growing, chance to tell the commissioners how you feel about it. We have to SHOW UP! I will be there, will you?
Slowing Growth in Wake = More Growth in Johnston? In light of what happened yesterday in Wake County, with slow growth candidates elected to office. You can expect that developers will begin to eye Johnston county a little more. We must be ready when this happens, so NOW or NEVER we need to let the commissioners know that we want smarter growth, with more done to take care of our roads, schools, and other infrastructure. PLEASE ATTEND the meeting at West Johnston on November 6 and let them know!
BUMP. Just a reminder of these public meetings. Since a lot of working resdients cannot attend the meeting held Monday at 10:00 a.m., these meetings may be an option.
