I'm confused, I was told that this area does not go house to house trick or treating on the actual night of Halloween, October 31st. That is the only way I've ever known it to be where I'm from in Virgina. I heard that not only is it not on Halloween, but that it is not on the same designated night each year and that the nights are different based on subdivisions. Is that true?? If so, how and when do I find out when my Sub division will do it and if can I find out when other surrounding ones do it? Thanks for any help, I'm STILL adjusting. -K
Can't help you with the Halloween thing, but welcome to NC from another native Virginian...............which part of the state are you coming from?? There are a few of us on here from including Kaci & Magnolia.
It is actually on Halloween (and in some cases even on Sunday too, in my subdivision). No worries! You get them rascals ready for some Wednesday night Trick or Treating....in all subdivisions.
I have lived here for 6 years now and it is always on 10/31. Other areas such as Cary, etc have changed their dates I believe, but JoCo is always 10/31 !
Thanks for the welcome. I'm from Northern Virginia suburb of Washington DC (about 30 miles away) near Dulles Airport. I’ve only been here since the end of August. Where are you from and how long have you been here? I really like it here so far! Very different then where I’m from, in a good way. -K
Other side of the state, LOL, Southwest VA(a tiny little place near Wytheville, which is southwest of Roanoke). Very different from your neck of the woods, but BIL & SIL used to live in Woodbridge. We've been here since 01, and other than the weather (too hot!) it's great.
Trick or treating is on Halloween, unless it falls on a Sunday, and then all the church going folks move it so they don't go to hell for dressing up like devils on the Lord's day.
Stupid question here. What is the reason/ history of how halloween started? I know I can google it but why do that:lol: What exactly is celebrated?
Actually our Church does a Harvest Festival on the 31st every year... even if it is on the 31st! And I am baptist (southren baptist at that)! :-D LOL We have free hot dogs, snow cones, chilli, pop corn, coke products, lots of games, music, inflatables, prizes and gifts, hay rides, children dress up, face painting, cake walk and we give out candy (and/or prizes) all night and we do a special presentation/story during the middle of the night. And it is all free but we do it with a good message attached .... so us "church folks" have a good time even on sundays if it is the 31 st and you can not beat free for anyone! LOL
I find it interesting Jo Co. schools have early release on the 30th and teacher work day off the 31st. Knowing most families trick-or-treat or attend church functions the eve of the 31st why not have an early release on the 31st (since the kids have little attention span anyway) and no school the 1st (since children have been out late and are recovering from the sugar high)... since they planned the days off for Halloween week?
Yea Harley - love to meet some fellow Virginians. i was born and raised in VA but Dad worked in DC so spent a lot of time in DC and a lot of time in VA Beach where i also had family. i moved down here from MD and love it and doubt i will ever go elsewhere. Welcome newbie, cannot wait to meet ya:-D
speaking of trick or treating, do any of yall take the little monkey to clayton for the little parade in the afternoon?
