The reason if I remember correctly is for sanitation grades! Bakers are just like anything else they must be kept to a high standard and will be inspected home and all... I'm sure there is more but this would be the main reason i would think
never heard of a reason to become a personal licenced baker? I've baked for years and never had anyone say anything to me or my mom... we will see, maybe cakeprincess will fill us in on this.
Yeah I'm talking about out of my home. Not setting up a store front. I have made cakes since I was very young. I always wanted a Easy Bake Oven, but never got one. So I just used the reg. kitchen oven... cheap parents! And it's morphed into a hobby of mine. So if I start doing this on the side big time IN MY HOME I have to get a license & get inspected?? That's what I'm asking.:?
Do any of the places or the people mentioned here make the REAL HOMEMADE BUTTERCREAM icing? That's what is important to me. In VA my best friend's SIL made most of my brother's (he 16 yrs younger than me) and my son's b-day cakes, as well as many wedding shower and baby shower cakes for me and my friends. She did awsome designs, like a 3-D tree house, A 3D Thomas the tank engine, 3D baby carriage, sheet cakes in shapes like hearts, baby powder bottles, kid cartoon caracters, ect. So they looked great but the BEST part was the homemade buttercream icing. OMG it was to die for. Everyone looked forward to her cake. I hate sugar icing, but the buttercream she made, I could have eaten by itself. She only used doctored up box cake, but it always turned out awesome and moist too. Oh how I'm going to miss those cakes. :-( I hope I can find something close to it here.
Kaci . . . I love you sweety but I think it's funny that you took a cake to a dentist's office. The rest of you guys must be napping . . . nobody else noticed that and got a chuckle? lol . . . love ya Kaci!
Uh-oh I've only been here 4 months and have breaking the law!! I didn't know that I needed to be licensed to sell cakes and such out of my house.
:lol::lol: Yeah, i was amazed nobody picked up on that either but you gotta remember that Dr. R. is the only one i know of who insists on an oven in every office so he can bake his chocolate chip cookies himself:lol:
Yes, it's a law that you must have your kitchen inspected in order to have your own bakery and sell goods. The reason for this is to protect customers from getting sick, which can caused by dirty kitchen, pest, low temp fridge, and more. You can contact Department of Agriculture/Health and ask about home bakery license. They will send you pamphlet about it. Cat and dog are the big NO-NO in the house, even bird too. If a cake baker want to set up a booth at the wedding expo, she'll be asked by the expo manager for a license or customers will ask her to see if she's licensed. Most customers prefer licensed baker to insure that they have clean kitchen, handle food safety, and more. I move here a year ago from Florida and I plan to be a licensed baker but had to drop the plan because I refuse to give up my dear cat. Now that she had gone to the heaven, the inspector is willing to inspect my kitchen soon.
Well I'm out lol, not getting rid of any of my animals..of course I wasn't looking to get into it this way. I just want to learn more on getting better. Sheri
Well thanks for the info! I'll have to check into that. And since my baby is an outside puppy now, the animal deal is good. Now... if I can just unpack everything from our move. Any volunteers?
Another vote for Cleveland Cake & Coffee. My birthday surprise was AWESOME, even though DH ate most of it
Plain Jane's You may also want to give Plain Jane's a try. She's on Main Street in Clayton (inside the Pink Teacup), and does beautiful work. Here's the website... http://theplainjanebakingco.com/
We attended a party this weekend that served Milky Way and Strawberry cake. Both were delicious. It came from the bakery behind Smithfield Chicken and Barbecue at 4042. Is this the Cleveland Cake Company? And are they the bakery that is opening on US 70 close to Telecris?
