Or more importantly, where you're from. Most folks here in Johnston County would probably only use one syllable...DURM! :)

I doubt that Ken was a gang member. By his Posts he seems like one who pulled himself back when he saw the "dark side" as did a lot of us.

i only hear people who don't live here who do commercials say "door um".

my parents are both from there, and they say "derm". they were smart enough to get the hell out of there in the 60's, though

durham wishes it was detroit or some gang city in new jersey. it's a hell-hole in general.

We came entirely too close to buying a house over there, acutally put in an offer  before we discovered Clayton. We didn't have a clue! Thank God that didn't work out!

I like Durham. It has cleaned itself up a ton since we moved to NC some dozen-ish years ago. Plus, they have baseball!

Thank you Ken . You knew alot about them so I figured you either were in one or new people in one . I wasn't trying to say I think Kens a gang banger but, I think you knew I didn't mean any harm. If I have a question I ask its a bad habbit some people get offended but I felt it was ok to ask instead of assume. lol

I didn't think he actually was one now. I know people who have done very bad bad things and went on to be very good people .

Well, I am glad you moved here and gotta away from that. I think everyone has done things they are not proud of myself included. I know a person now who I think is in one but I am not sure . I have heard their are alot around in joco but I think its just a rumor or a bunch of kids playing .

I was not offended, I was just stating my thoughts. It is certainly okay to ask most any question.

Oh, I know lol I didn't mean you. I meant some people would be offended being asked that question but I didn't think he would and some on here may think I was being smart with him but I was really wondering . I ask people anything even in real life lol . Sometimes I get strange looks like she is a nutt I asked a woman not so long ago if both her kids had the same dad cause they looked so different ( she talked about giving birth to them so they were not adopted and I didn't ask in front of the kids) One was blond hair blue eyed and one black hair brown eyes . I asked, she laughed and said yes one took after her dh family and the other took after her. Her dh said I asked for a D&A but she won't do it ( he was laughing) any how my mom looked at me as if I had been standing there naked doing the hokie pokie .I have a habbit of asking anything or saying whats on my mind. It is something I really need to work on. LOL

    Angeleyes,
Unfortunately we do have a gang problem in Joco. Clayton High School has both the Bloods and Creps (sp.) and probably one or two Hispanic gangs, having kids in this school for going on 6 yrs. this has been common knowledge for any that go there. To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been much activity on the campus as far as them fighting with each other. I think this is an overflow from the inner city schools in Raleigh etc..

I must live in the dark cause until coming to 42.com I didn't realise we had a meth trade here. Now its on the local news alot that someones getting busted for it. I wouldn't know what it was if I saw it . Its made with ajax isn't it someone told me that one time ( they may have been kidding). So far everyone I have seen on the news whos been charged with having or making it looks like trash, so it must be a poor persons drug. Not saying poor people do meth just that the people who have been busted look nasty and trashy.

Mine is still little so I have no inside to the highschool goings on. I am worried for when she does go but , I was also worried first day of school and first time spending the night away from home and lots more things so I guess I am just gonna worry for the rest of my life about everything she does and every where she gos.

Unless someone grew up under a rock they have something they have done wrong in the past. I admire you and others who made it through and seem to have turned into great people. See, I am of the belief that a person who makes it through those tough times is a much stronger person.

Recently my daughter and I were driving out of state and I thought it would be the perfect time to get some more of those "let's talk in detail about drugs and sex" talks. When I started talking about my teenage years my daughter yelled at me and said "There are just some things a kid does not want to know about their parent!" I thought by opening up, a little, she would understand but I was wrong. We drove down the highway not speaking and then she broke the silence by saying "I know you were a hippie, I know that you did things that you don't want me to do now let's start singing and laughing". She is wiser than I will ever be. I have told her that my parents did not talk to me about anything. If it was personal, we did not discuss it. Had sex...don't discuss it! Did this, did that...don't discuss it. They were great parents and taught me many things but these two subjects were not discussed. Our generation thought that we could discuss these things but I have learned we can only go so far and then a kid wants us to shut up!
