Didn't someone on here say they sometimes found homes for birds? I have been looking for the thread but can't find it. We are looking for a friendly cockatiel and possibly a parakeet for my daughters. I have had some experience with birds and I am not one of those parents who expects their child to take full responsibility for care. I like to use rescue groups for finding our pets when possible. Thanks in advance.

Most of what I have done is up north, cause it was with animals, mostly A Parrot rescue that I did alot of volunteer work for. I really wish there was one down here locally as well. I miss the people and the stuff I learned and just the fact that I was helping the parrots too.

I would check with Dr. Burkett, he is also a member of my parrot group and he is a cert. Avian Vet as well..I really think highly of him. He is in Durham and he is the second link given to you above. Teils and Keets are always what people call the "throw away birds". You shouldn't have any problem finding one to adopt. Let me know if you would like for me to ask around on my group. My best friend was a breeder for 16 yrs, but she got out cause to many were being rehomed and she could stand to see her babies going from home to home. I have both a Cockateil and a Parakeet, and both are my daughters birds, and she sat there this morning for over a hour with her teil on her shoulder and he was just giving her kisses over and over. Again their great birds for first time bird owners.

I would love for you to ask around for us. We were at a pet store pricing cages this afternoon and there happened to be a love bird there. My younger daughter was very interested, especially as I had told her about the one I used to have. So if you hear about one of them needing a home, that would be an option. Lovebirds happen to be one of my favorites.

Did you check with Dr. Burkett in Durham? He may know of someone. Lovebirds, I had one up in MI, he was special..lovebirds sometimes tend to be on the nippy side. I would stick with the keet and the teil if your looking for birds for the kids. I will ask around for ya..I will let you know if I hear anything. Plus keep a eye out on Graigs list I have seen a few listed there as well.

Thanks again, Sherri. I emailed the Bridie Boutique-what a great website! Nice how the pet stores try to sell you expensive things that are bad for the birds, right?
I looked at cages yesterday and saw one with a bottom that has sides that come up and out to catch seeds and feathers. Have you tried one of those? It was twice the price of another the same size; I just wondered if it would help much with cleaning on the floor around the cage(don't worry, I know what I am getting into there).

I have one cage here that has those and I don't even use them lol, I have the plastic carpet protectors all around my cages and then on top of that I have newspaper. With everyone that I know that has those things none of them use them. I don't know what your finding out about adopting a bird, but my best friend has both the teil and the keet. The teils are the last clutch that she handfed. The are also brother and sisters of my Cockateil. They are handfed and they are 3 months old. The keets are not handfed so they would need some work. Let me know what you think and you may PM me and I will give you my private email and hook you up with her.
