Is it open? It looks nice but never any cars in the parking lot. I only pass through during the day so it might just be open for dinner???? New neighbor looking for local (non-chain) places to eat.

I wouldn't waste money there... there are much better local establishments to visit. If you like Mexican, try La Cocina in Clayton. If you want a good steak, I've heard Lock, Stock & Barrel is good - also in Clayton, McKinleys - local sports/irish pub with good bar food. Venero's has good Italian, Kaze a Japanese Steak house just opened up over at White Oak shopping center. A little closer to home, Bonsai and Kobe are both good Japanese restaurants. Flip Side in downtown Clayton is a nice little non-smoking restaurant. I would rather visit any of the places I mentioned before ever re-visiting Chops and dropping another dime in that place. DH was served a steak there that was rancid.. just nasty!! Then they tried to pass it off as the "aging" process they use... blechhh!!!

I didn't realize Kaze opened up. Have you been there? My husband's been waiting for it to open forever!

Nope not yet.. I just read in another thread today that it was finally open. I know DH will be chomping at the bit to get over there and try out their sushi.

Overpriced for what you get....you can get better steaks at Outback or Angus Barn

Totally different styles...wow, what a comparision, lol!

The Angus Barn has a great cut, but what you're really paying for is the customer service...which is top-notch. Outback can hav a good cut too, and is less because the CS is less.

I would also recommend Cleveland Draft House. Family friendly side or sports bar-take your pick. They've added some things to their menu recently. Just tried the homemade lasagne last week and it was wonderful! We have always had great service as well.

Personally, as someone who lives in the 4042 area, i love the Clubhouse (great food and people) and CDH. i am very picky about where i spend my money and i expect my money's worth and with those two place, i have never had a problem.

Someone provided food from there for a meeting once, and I have to say it was really good. However, I went to their website to check out the menu for taking DH & DS there and was a bit    at the menu prices. Needless to say, I have not actually eaten there as a result.

Last night my family and I almost go in Cleveland Drafthouse, but decided not to because we thought maybe it's not "kid friendly" (I guess I'm wrong) and we didn't want our little one exposed to bar and drinking, etc.

I'm thinking about taking my hubby to Angus Barn for our 13th wedding anniversary next weekend. Are they good?

    tripps

went there for my birthday. great experience. no screaming kids, wasnt loud like the ale house, they put this olive oil drizzle on a plate with this fabulous bread to dip. it was so good. ceasar salad and steak was awesome. been to angus barn several times. i wont drive that far anymore for dinner. tripps is like a fancy couples outback with really good food.

I agree Tripps is good, a little noisy at times. Rockola their sister resturant is a little more casual and good food. You would probably love Stonewood Grill.

I love Angus Barn. I've only been a few times, though. The food is good, but what I really like is the atmosphere and the sevice. It's a family run place and they really take pride in treating their customes well. They have a really extensive wine selection too. I would go there more, but all that atmosphere and service costs a lot of $$. If you do go, be sure to ask for a tour of the wine cellar. The first time I went (for my 1st anniversary), we took the tour. They have a private room down there and it was all decked out for a magazine shoot.

Hey CAKEPRINCESS...... There's any number of good steak houses you can go to and get a fine cut of beef any time. But if you want a memorable dinner try St. Jacques' French Cuisine in Raleigh. They have a great wine selection and a varied menu prepared by one of the finest chefs on the east coast. It's very unassuming on the outside but definitely top-notch. Granted, I've never come out under $130 for two but for your special occasion I assure you you won't be dissapointed. I never have. Prepare to spend a couple hours there at least. They won't rush you and you won't want to rush through your four-course meal either. Good Luck.
