I call clayton peds (jeffers, mann) they are doing weekend clinics, but now that the flu season has already started I hate that I have to wait until the 27th, if we have such ample supply why are they making us wait til the clinics to do these... I dont want my baby getting the flu without his shot!

I was at Medicap on Sat and got mine. I heard them tell another lady that kids under 16 have to have a prescription from their dr. Maybe that was to have it done somewhere besides the dr's office?

Actually, its if they are under 18, not 16.

My daughter and I got the flu mist at her 7 year old check -up about 2 weeks ago.

Call the local drug stores and see who is doing a clinic and when. If they aren't doing any more call urgent care and they will probably give them.

How many get their elementary children flu shots? Just wondering. I personally am not allowed to get a flu shot. Found out the hard way that I am slightly allergic to egg but in a direct dose of a flu shot, it is a nightmare. So, unfortunately I can't get one.

I've never gotten any of my children the flu shot and we've never had to deal w/ the flu and barely colds. My kids when younger were exposed to very harsh conditions and I think honestly built up quite an immunity. TB exposure, measles, chicken pox, flu, etc. Do you think it would be worth it to do it this year? Is this year supposed to be different than last year? Last year they said it was going to be a horrible flu season and I did not know of one person who got it. I know the benefits outweigh the risks(except in my case--LOL) but just wondering if I should get my kids the shot. Do you all have elementary aged children or much younger?

Thanks for input b/c I've seen these signs all aroudn and it's got me thinking maybe I should.

    Take care,

    Stephanie--mom to 7

I have mixed feelings about the flu shot...I don't give it to my oldest (7) because he never, ever, ever gets it (watch him get it now - lol!) one year everyone in the house had it but him...my 4 yo gets the shot every year, and last year he STILL got the flu, but he catches anything and everything that goes around. I also have my 2 yo get the shot, just because he's so tiny, hate to see him get sick like that. My husband and I don't usually get it either. You're not guaranteed to not get the flu by getting the vaccine, it just helps with how badly you get it. And FYI: Tamiflu is the med of choice by doctors for the kids, and it is VERY expensive (with BCBS it was over $50) and my son refused to drink it, it tasted terrible. and it's not a med you can flavor either, I tried!

None of us get it, but DH has had it when he was in the AF. BUT we are all very healthy. If we had something that suppressed the immune system, I'd probably get it.

Thanksgiving night 1997 my oldest son started with the flu. The next morning our 18 month old had it. By lunchtime my husband had it. By bedtime I had it (11 weeks pregnant and still in morning sickness mode) and everyone was too sick to take care of me. Needless to say we get our flu shots EVERY year. It's not a guarantee but I'm no longer willing to risk it. I guess you have to make the decision based on personal experiences.

The Flu Mist is made for folks that are sensitive to eggs and for children.

I am pretty sure they offer the Flu Mist at MediCap (saw itr on some paperwork) even though I went with the shot.

Ro - that would p me off. all I have heard is how the state has an ample supply of the shot, if so why are they not giving it out more quickly.. these kids need the shot before Dec... have you called around to see if other peds have one or if Clayton Peds can give you a pres. so you can get one at a flu clinic somewhere else?

I am gonna call them back after I pick my daughter up from school today and I will call the dr. office back and I will see if they can get my toddlers in sooner, if not than I will demand a pers for my girls and go else where.

What did you wind up do?

I had to call the raleigh office because Clayton wouldn't answer the phones and it was already after 2. So I explained the situation to the lady that answered and she got me in for the 10th of Nov. at the Clayton Office.

I guess it all depends on who you talk to.
