I admit, I got suckered into purchasing the littermaid which worked for a few months..I can't believe I'm actually considering spending bucho bucks on this... Then again, it is pretty cool! http://www.catgenie.com/ Your thoughts? Anyone have one for their cats?
I think it's alot of money, but then again I like the idea. I'm not sure if one of my cats would even use it. Sheri
Yeah, thats what I'm debating too. I know my cats will use it, they will probably love it but, it is very expensive. But, on the other hand, NEVER having to buy litter or clean it out? I'm leaning more toward that.
I think it would work for one cat, but I have two and they like to take turns. What happens if your cat wants to use the thing and it's in the middle of the cleaning, washing, drying cycle?
Don't get me started on LitterMaid... I just threw out my Littermaid Mega (piece o' crap) 9000. We didn't have that sucker a year, and it was a poorly manufactured piece of crap. We had one that we bought 6 years ago, it was one of the original Littermaid Plus, that worked great for 5 years, but it finally gave out and needed to be replaced. Boy, I don't know what happened to their product in that 5 years, but the new one sure didn't even compare to how well the old one worked. I emailed them with the complaint, never even got a reply. With all the time we spend cleaning out the rake, and unjamming it.... might as well be time spend just emptying a regular litter box. So this weekend I had the pleasure of throwing it in the trash and bought a Booda Dome. Cat Genie... looks to pricey and I'm afraid that it wouldn't keep up with the amount of traffic my litterboxes get.
I bought a Littermaid probably 2 years ago, it was a piece, that is for sure. Complete waste of money. It's sitting broken in my garage. DH thinks he can fix it, LOL.
Well it says on the site that you push the button if you want to control when to clean it or you can set it to do it on it's own. 1 cat one time a day and 2 cats 2 times a day. Kind of neat. Sheri
I missed that, apparently. Thanks! That's a lot of $$ though, and it doesn't cost me anything to scoop, lol.
Do you need a water hook up for it where you place it, or does it have its own reservoir for clean/dirty H2O? I had a Litter Maid - one of the original models. . .my biggest beef with it was that the clumping litter would stick to the rake and even if you used a fairly stiff brush on it a couple of times a week, some would remain. . .IMO that's keeping funky bacteria around, so it was hard for me to get past that issue. If I was going to take the time to scrub it daily, I might as well have a traditional box and just scoop. Animal Lover gave me an idea I've shared with others, so I'll share it here - I use a bin - got it from Walmart - its 10" high, 14" across and about 22" long. It cost me about $7 and kitty leaves most of his 'kitty trail' behind. I have a plastic runner under the box, so nothing gets on my carpet.
