Since I'm getting into this and I would like to get some supplies for here at home. Like the tips and bags and just stuff like that..were is the best cheapest place to get that stuff. Either local or online doesn't matter. I have priced stuff, but really not sure where to go.

Walmart carries some, Michaels has a good selection, but NC paper on Main St in Clayton has got EVERYTHING! Those are the places I have gotten things from. Prices are similar, I don't remember one being a lot cheaper than another. I took my class at NC Paper too.

Go to Craigs list, Ebay, and yardsales. I got a lot of my stuff that way. Michael's carries a pretty good variety of Wilton Items but you will pay through the nose.

I got a over 200 piece set on Ebay several years back for dirt cheap.

    Good Luck!

I second this! NC Paper company is where I buy all of my stuff. If I need a specialty item that they don't carry I go online to KitchenKrafts.com or Fancyflours.com.

It's on the corner of O'Neil and Main. Can't miss it, big white block building.

I find it so relaxing. It's my way to de-stress. I haven't gotten a lot of orders since I've been here (don't know too many people yet) but when I do I get all excited and just mentally unwind. (Sounds crazy, I know)

I'm making a really cute one I got from the "Quick & Simple" magazine. It's just a round cake, you pipe some lines for spider webbing, then make spiders out of peanut M&M's. Simple and way cute. DS volunteered me to make it for his class Halloween party.

sounds really cute. Take some pictures so we can all see!! I love to see pictures of other people's creations!

Right now I'm making a cake for a young man who's turning 18 who wants a Carolina Panthers logo plaque in the middle. Being new here I actually had to google the Panthers because I didn't know what it was. (don't hurt me please!!:)

it's really cute and seems pretty simple. But did they have to list the calories and fat of each slice on the bottom?

i started learning how to decorate cakes by reading self help books about 30 years ago - i could not afford back in those days to buy a cake so i taught myself how to decorate every cake my boys wished for for their birthdays. i did spend a bit of time several years ago working for a company as a cake decorator and learned a lot more about flowers, roses, etc and i love doing it. Like said above, it is a relaxing thing to do and so rewarding when it is done:-D

It is fun, I have nightmares about that cake though, it took a long time to do, and since we were traveling from here to VA, I couldn't do it ahead of time. It's an hour before the party with about 30 people coming and I was STILL working on it! LOL. I swore then and there I wouldn't do them under such time constraints. I made a cookie monster cake for a friend of mine for her DS when DH was in the Air Force. He was really cute. I'm getting inspired to try it again. Lord knows I have a cabinet full of stuff to play with.

Oh girl, i can relate to the stress factor when it comes down to the line for a birthday party - been there, done that, and totally freaked out:lol:

    Thanks!

Thanks so much for the tips on where to get supplies, I don't know where to start. I have what I need at work, but I want stuff here at the house, at least the basic stuff. I'm still learning now. I really like it so far, and as far as the stress part, I find it so much better then what I was doing before. Being in Retail managment for 18 yrs and I have never done this and it is at this point much much better. I took a pay cut to learn this, but so far it's been worth it.

That looks so much like the one we are doing at work, except we are using a large plastic spider and some gummy spiders on the side. Our icing is purple or green. But, I really like this one as well too.

It is very rewarding for sure, I have so surprised myself so far that I can even do what I have done. Our cakes are pretty basic, but we do do the flowers and stuff, it's the amount that we have to do. I know this past Saturday the main cake decorator had 50 orders that had to be done by 2pm at the lastest. It's crazy and we haven't even gotten to our busy time.
