Magazines or books? I know, I know full of questions this week. But, I was in a book store today and they didn't have one book or one magazine just for cakes, and how to do them..I don't need the heavy duty cake decorating I just want the basic right now..any idea's? Sheri
i feel ya girl, the one time i did it professionally was at a grocery store and i would go home at night with my fingers, hands, and arms aching due to continuous decorating. i love doing it but i did not love doing it commercially, but that is just my opinion, you may feel totally different. As for ideas on basic cake decorating, i believe last time i was in Michaels, they had a couple of cake decorating books that covered just the basics and some cute stuff - good luck and best wishes in your career change
I don't know if I will like doing it commercially or not, I haven't done it long enough yet and I'm labled as a cake decorator, but I'm not fully trained yet and I haven't even done orders yet. I just have to do back stock right now, today I have to do 30 dirt cakes lol, not really something decorating here, but still 30 of them darn things lol. Sheri
KDC - the class you took in Clayton, was it very expensive? I would like to do this for fun but was wondering the cost!
Rushlow, If you go to Amazon.com and type cake decorating in the search box you will come up with tons of books! They range from simple to more complex. The prices are below what you would pay in the store and lots of times they have free shipping. I don't know how far from me you live but if you'd like to borrow some of my books I'd be happy to lend them to you. Rose
I can't remember!! It couldn't have been a whole lot, cause ya'll know I'm a tightwad! I remember the supplies being more, but I'd be willing to let someone borrow my stuff to see if they are really into it. Just call NC Paper, they are super nice..............they also give those classes at Michaels.
NC Paper CO decorating classes I went today and inquired about the decorating class. The beginner class doesn't start until January. You have to call them and put your name on the list (they have a class limit and fills up quick) The phone number is 553-3750. The classes cost $25.00 for four classes. There are a total of 4 two hour classes before you move on to the next level. Supplies are extra and she wasn't sure what exactly would be needed since she isn't the one who teaches the class. They will let you know what supplies are needed when they call you right before classes will start. Hope I got enough information!!
Michael's craft store at White Oak shopping center do offer classes. You don't need to spend $$$ on books. You can borrow it for free at Garner Public Library - they have plenty of cake decorating books there. You must have a Wake County library card (doesn't cost that much). You can also go to many different other libraries with the same card, as long as it's in Wake County. Good luck and happy decorating!
That is what is hard right now, I don't have the extra cash to spend on books right now..I'm just trying to teach myself I guess cause work is slow on doing that. They wait until you make a mistake to correct it..stupid I know. Sheri
Opps, I would love to borrow some books if that is ok with you, I"m up on 210 next to Mcdee's..let me know if this works for you? Sheri
You know that really isn't bad at all, wish I would have the time to do it..funny I said something to work about taking some classes (since if I did it they would have to work around my schedule) and they were like why we are training you and I was like you are? Cause they have done very little in 2 months, maybe I'm impatient or something, but I want to learn and they should think that is a good thing. I really want to do the class thing. If we have to decorate 10 cakes in one hour then I need some training lol. Sheri
you are super close to me. I live off 50 and Mount Pleasant Rd. I shop at the Food Lion on 210. If you want PM me with directions and when you'd like to meet. I have no problem coming to you but if you're worried I'm an ax murderer we can meet at a public spot. Let me know. I have tons of books.
f we have to decorate 10 cakes in one hour then I need some training lol. WOW that's a lot of cakes to do in an hour!
Yep that is what I thought too when they told me that. lol So far I don't think I'm doing to bad, today I did 20 1/2 sheets, and 5 rounds in 7 hours, oh and two cookie cakes lol. I don't do orders yet, just back up for the case, so I"m still learning alot. Sheri
