WakeMed ain't always the best choice either. Carried my wife there sometime back around 5:30 in the afternoon because of abdominal pain. We left the hospital at 4:30 am the next morning!! I nearly fell asleep numerous times going home. Why the wait?? They wanted to do a ultrasound in radiology and that took 6 hours to get back there. Said they were busy. We get back there and its like a ghost town. Plus, their emergency room wasn't all that busy. If that experience happens often, better try to get out of that hospital before the 11:00 shift change or your care will go down hill fast.

Next time, we'll try a little harder to make it around to Rex...or maybe even Duke Raleigh.

You are exactly right !! I broke my back and was paralyzed from the waist down ..Ambulance took me to jmh..they said I had a spinal cord injury but my back wasn't broke.good news I thought..I was life flighted to Duke and re xrayed my back was broke in four places..crusheed in two spots ..go figure..........Once I was very sick and totally dehydrated wife called an ambulance and took me to jmh..The ambulance started an IV to get fluids back in me > I was so sick couldn't hold myself up.The ambulance stopped at the "front" entrance took out the IV and put me in the waiting room in a wheelchair with everyone who seemed to be waiting to get a note to miss work the next day..I had no one with me. I passed out and fell on the floor before I could get into triage............My youngest daughter got a sliver of glass in her foot my now ex wife was referred to jmh by the urgent care ..jmh xrayed her foot for glass told her that her foot was broken put her in a cast.the next day went to a orthopedic DR and of course her foot was not broken ! the incident with my daughter was this week...I told my primary care DR about my experiences there and she said jmh has a 7 percent satisfaction rating and she wouldn't send an animal there...just my experience ..you be the judge

I have heard bad bad things about that place too.
Your stories have re-confirmed my decision to never ever go there

Wow, never heard bad stuff about them before. Only been to the ER there once and I liked it, besides the extremely busy waiting room. I'm going to have to keep that stuff in mind for future.

The one time a JoCo ambulance transported me they asked did I want to go to Wake Med or JMH. I told them Wake Med (I had heard too many horror stories about JMH though I say that). They wheeled me through the Wake Med ER back door & I was put in one of the curtained "rooms" immediately. No waiting rooms or drop off at the front...that's just awful.

Has anyone ever had a baby at JMH? I have a friend who has had multiple children there and loved it. I think a lot of that had to do with the good relationship she had with her doctor.

I don't have any experience at JMH, but I would imagine that you could find horror stories at any hospital. I laughed because ya'll could be talking about the one in my hometown, I wouldn't take my cats there. There's one in every area. 8)

anytime you call 911 and get an ambulance you can ABSOLUTELY request where you would like to be transported to, the only time you may not be allowed to is if the wake co hospitals are on RED that means they are full and only take trauma patients, now if you get a medic that dont want to go to raleigh (say if you are in smithfield) then thats another topic. as a rule YOU do decide where you get medical care,,,,,hope this helps!

Yeah, except the rescue squad charges you about $20 per mile and is not fully reimbursed by insurance either.

I had both my babies there and had no problems. I can say their L&D was great. The second baby came so fast, the doc didn't have time to get there so the nurse delivered her. Thankfully, I never needed their emergency services, so I can't say about that.

I understand that this is not true in the case on an life-threating emergency, apparently, then they can't cross the county line.

Well, Clayton Rescue may make the determination on where you go in life/death situation, but they give you a choice between Johnston Memorial or WakeMed in non-life threatening situations. I think most native Johnstonians probably would choose Smithfield, while those who have relocated to the Clayton area, prefer Raleigh.

JMH removed my grandfather's colon cancer, skin cancer, my Grandmother's breast cancer she also went there when she had two strokes, from which she recovered fully from both. JMH removed my Mother's gallbladder, several benign tumors from her breasts, two from my own, gave me a dnc, delivered both my children, handled my miscarriage.... ok, they didn't sew my fingertip back on but they did stop the bleeding, removed my husbands appendix, handled multiple emergency situations with my kids ... and put food on my Mom's table for thirty years. My family is still alive with the exception of my grandparents, one of which died at home unexpectedly and the other in a nursing facility after having been a resident for less than two weeks. Both died from old age.

My FIL died AT Wake Med, heart attack in their famous heart center at 50 yrs old. A co-worker was sent home from Rex with "bronchitis" and died the next day. She was 45. BIL's best friend died AT Rex from misdiagnosed encephalitis. He was 33, I think.

    I'll take my chances.

If that is true we were lied to by the paramedics on the Four Oaks Rescue Squad. They told us that they HAD to go JMH. I do know that 50-210 will take you to Wake Med if you request it.

Nothing but good experiences at JMH. We know several doctors who work at JMH and have had our surgeries at that hospital. Yes, if the air conditioning was not working I would demand one so that the air was circulating and bacteria could not fester.

People have bad experiences at all hospitals...Duke just had that whole scandal about surgical instruments and some on here are talking about going to that one. Remember the Thread on the Dentist? I think people rethought that Dentist after hearing some good stories.

Not sure if the Emergency Room at Johnston Memorial is really a part of JMH. Seems like I read somewhere that it was a separate company...food for thought!

so you waited for 90 minutes before you got to see a doctor? this sounds kinda tacky but i put some of the blame on you. i would of waited about 30 seconds MAX before i started to show my a$$. you should of spoken up A LOT SOONER. but with that being said, i hope everyone turns out ok.

My husband is a Johnston County Native, says he will drive to the county line and call 911 for a ride to WakeMed.
