I clearly remember a neighbor child that was hit by a car and the family drove him up the Cleveland Road to NC50 so the Wake Co EMS could haul him to "Old" Rex. This was about 1975. The mom road in the back of their pick-up truck holding the child while the daddy drove & prayed. It still raises the hair on my neck.
I reckon that would be Duke Medical Center then because that's the only likely place Lifeflight is going to take someone out of Johnston Memorial. I wonder how long its going to take WakeMed to build an ER onto their building on 70 to compete more with Johnston Memorial. Since adding on their helicopter service to their already existant critical care ambulance service, I'd imagine WakeMed would be looking to expand into neighboring counties with maybe even some smaller hospital acquisitions to expand their network. Probably wind up buying into a hospital like Wayne Memorial, Lenoir Memorial or Betsy Johnson in Harnett.
I'm glad he's fine. I will never set foot in JMH again, took my almost 3yo in the ER in late 2001, released w/a stomach virus, a few days later we were being life flighted to Duke, she had cancer.
i was in a car accident in jo co and they asked me where i wanted to go, they had no problem taking me to wake med and i wasnt charged anything.
would never go to JMH or Raleigh Community, big no no's indeed.. glad to hear your grandbaby is doing good!
Actually Wake Med. can accept lifeflight patients, helicopter pad is next to the hospitals ER, they can receive and transport out. The reason Wake doesn't have a lifeflight of their own is the state wouldn't approve it, they've tried for years to get one but the state says there is not a need since Duke's is so close. As far as sitelite hospitals there's Eastern Wake, Northern Wake, Southern Wake and the newly revised Western Wake, not sure which of these has been shut down, but at one time most of them were basically used as semi-retirement, long term facilities etc.. As someone that has worked a long time for the Wake system I can't see them buying into Wayne or Lenoir or Betsy for the main fact that that Wake's hospital adminstration is very tight on control and those hospitals are just a little too far away, IMO.
Hey Jester, I've been outta the loop for sometime with taking care of my mom, has Wake finally gotten their helicopter program up and running? I haven't worked there for awhile and haven't had a chance to talk with some of my old contacts at wake. I may have heard something on the news and just forgot it, just not enought hours in the day when your taking care of someone that sick.
That's what I was wondering myself, been out of the loop for awhile taking care of my elderly mom. I know that they've been fighting for a long time to get one and hope they've succeeded.
