The world is coming to an end, we got phone calls (voice mail anyone?)and junk mail. How is that any different than your average marketing? The point is, if people gave a darn, they would have done something about it.

Lobbyist tend to only be wrong when they push a position other than yours.

Disclaimer, a significant amount of my work is for a Lobbying firm.

Anyone have any friends or relatives that work with the county? Can you ask thenm to get the inside scoop?

Nope. They are always wrong. No minoroity group should have access to politicians that the average person doesn't have.

Just call the Smithfield Courthouse BOE. They will fill you in. They are still working on everything and awaiting word from Raleigh.

I just don't think that it true. I called, I spoke with people, other people I knew did too. Money helps and we had none. Next time, maybe. The people have voted and we have to live with it.

All I was saying is that in our area we heard from the "No" side a lot!

WRAL is investigating. Hopefully they will have a report on the noon news!

As you noted, most folks will not get off their dead a**, well somebody (the employers of the lobbyists) decided to get off their butts and I congratulate them. But I do agree, there are many abuses tied to this industry and our government does need to address it.

The argument that the seller pays doesn't fly. How many fees and taxes and whatevers are built into to everyday business (buying a car for exaple) that gets passed to the buyer? Heck, sales tax is the same way.

The county now has one option to raise more funds for growth - property taxes! How do you think the farmer feels about that in eastern JoCo who has been here for 50 years and plans to pass along the homestead to his family?

Do the math - $800 versus a cumulative property tax increase of, say $160 over five years. You would have to move every five years (within Johnston County) for this to be a wash.

The BOE works with a large volunteer base, but do they not get funding from somewhere? The easier we make this the more money it will cost. A day off is a good idea, but at what cost to the national economy? How hard is it to take off 1 hour? Most employers are flexible on this. I don't buy it. It comes down to laziness. We are cows.

It took 5 whole minutes. I reminded several folks to vote yesterday, I don't know if it did any good. :?

Instead, you'll probably pay a higher property tax that in three to five years will be more that the $800 on a $200,000 home.

The land transfer tax might make it harder to get into a home, but it'll be easier to stay in there - and foreclosures are a blight usually.

My pessimism towards JoCo politics will not allow me to disagree with you here.

I got 3 phone calls - but we have different phone lines feeding into our house & I think we may have recieved 1 call on each line. I know we got at least one mailing - but I really wasn't keeping track. I also saw multiple signs saying to vote "no" near Cleveland Elem. when I went to vote. I just hung up on the prerecorded message each time (I hate those), I tossed the letter, I ignored the signs and I voted YES.

And there you go! Those evil mailings and phone calls didn't stop her from voting how she wanted. Imagine that! An educated and free thinking individual! I don't agree with your vote, but I sure am glad you voted! :p

Evidently WRAL did not think Clayton election results/problems warranted their attention. No mention on their noon news.

I always find it funny when someone types CHOW instead of CIAO.

My son says concludes instead of includes. It's cute when he's mad at his brother.
