Watch out Barney...you're going to get smacked for posting anything about warning others who live near them :roll::roll::roll:
Barney, I think that's a great idea, maybe webbie could "sticky" it or something. If I had children, I'd want to know where the sex offenders lived.
here's an interesting thought - i KNOW for a fact - (not heresay) of someone who committed a sexual wrong doing and lives in our area.. but since he was a minor at the time of the occurance he is not listed. what are we supposed to do about these loosers?
Actually, I live near this addy. I got the email this morning too that one moved in. Makes me sick to my stomach but I do think its a great idea to create a sticky to keep everyone updated. I think if I didn't know and something happened to any child, I would be devastated. Best to know then not know.
Just an FYI about this particular offender... Some of the neighbors are going to approach the sheriff's department about this because the house he is residing in, is within a few feet of TWO daycares. Someone called G105 this morning during "Bob the bounty hunter" when Bizzell was on (JC Sheriff) and asked him what was the legal amount of feet an offender could reside in from a school/daycare. Bizzell said he did not know but to look at the offender website. I think this is something that should be publicly looked at, with each offender. Not one, but two daycares. Come on now....
Well, here is the answer to my question: Are offenders prohibited from living near schools/daycare centers? As of December 1, 2006, it is a felony for a convicted sex offender to knowingly reside within 1,000 feet of any school or child care center. For more information, see Session Law 2006-247. Additionally, some individuals who are still on active probation or parole may be subject to court mandated limitations on residency. Have you called the Clayton Police Department? This convicted lives in the Town of Clayton city limits. I am disappointed that I sherrif did not know the law.
Actually, no, there are a few neighbors in the neighborhood that are getting ready to battle this out. I will back them up anyway I can but they definately have the bull by the horn! I agree. I could not believe for the life of me how many times the Sherriff has been on the radio, talking about locating these sex offenders and not knowing this law. I was disappointed. On the other hand, from what they were saying, they did catch quite a few criminals by broadcasting on G105 once a week so something is working. He also cut down alot of "expenses" in the jail. Imagine being an inmate at the jail in Johnston County and not being allowed coffee. Yep, they decided to cut expenses and that was one of them. I think cigerettes too but I can't be too sure. I know my SO would literally lose it. Starbucks makes a fortune off of that one alone!
Somebody took care of this sex offender www.foxnews.com NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Detroit News and Free Press are reporting that a burned and beheaded body found by a utility crew is that of a convicted sex offender. A single fingerprint from the victim's burned hand has allowed Michigan State Police to identify him as 26-year-old Daniel Gene-Vincent Sorensen. The print reveals that Sorensen had been a registered sex offender in Illinois. Northville Township sewer and water department crews found the body at the end of a cul-de-sac about 20 miles northwest of Detroit about 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Sorensen's head has not been found. A cause of death has not been determined.
There's nothing wrong or disappointing with having to look up a law. Cops can't be expected to know every law, and I certainly wouldn't expect someone that's not on the street practicing every day (ie - the sheriff) to be intimately familiar with every law. Even doctors have reference books. As long as cops know the basics to protect life and not violate someone's rights, there's plenty of time to look up the other laws they don't enforce on a daily basis.
But a SHERIFF not knowing how many feet a sex offender can live from a daycare or school? That is simply not an excuse. When a Sheriff has to go to the doorstep of a sex offender's house, he should know whether or not he is in a safe distance from a school/daycare. What if something happened to a child? What is law enforcement going to say? "Sorry ma'am/sir, we didnt know he was living 989 ft from the daycare your child was at. Even though we have on file that its his residence. We didnt know the law. Our bad." No. I dont think so.
Assuming something was to happen. is 1,001 feet away make this child any safer than 989 feet? That is just silly.
Presumably, if he's going to the offender's doorstep, he will look up the distance before he leaves his office. Knowing where to find the answer is essential, rather than spouting a number off the top of your head that may or may not be right.
I agree, why would he spout off a number, have it be wrong and then get greif over that. No win situation. I wouldn't either.
