Personal Testimony Today, it was my turn to work security at the Dorthea Dix Hospital courtroom. It's in the house where the former head of DDH lived on site years ago. Patients at DDH have hearings to determine how long they need to stay for additional treatment after their initial commitment is about up. There is a court proceeding with a judge, a rep from the DA's office and a rep/advocate for the patient, DDH staff, a court clerk, and a deputy. The patients are escorted in for their hearing. They all have various degrees of mental illness, and the things I see and hear will break your heart. Some patients have suffered all their lives; others were stricken later in life for various reasons. From young adults to senior citizens, each patient has their own story of how they ended up at DDH. I just praise God for the mental faculties I have, and that I don't have a family member with a mental illness like the ones I see at DDH. Pray for those patients and their families.
The Seed A successful Christian business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together. He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you." The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO." One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure. Six months went by--still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow. A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick at his stomach; it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. Jim took his barren pot to the board room. When he arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful--in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him! When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives. Jim just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!" All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the financial director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!" When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed - Jim told him the story The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, "Behold your next Chief Executive! His name is Jim!" Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed. How could he be the new CEO the others said? Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow. All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive!" If you plant honesty, you will reap trust If you plant goodness, you will reap friends If you plant humility, you will reap greatness If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective If you plant hard work, you will reap success If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation If you plant faith in Christ, you will reap a harvest So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later. Two thousand years ago Paul wrote to the church at Galatia the same story but with fewer words, "What you sow, so shall you reap". (Gal. 6:7) We are grass that will wither and die but the incorruptible seed of God's Word will live forever - sow it daily into the life of your family! (1 Peter 1:23)
Lord, prop us up on our leanin' side Sent to me by another church member and dear friends: Every time I am asked to pray, I think of the old deacon who always prayed, 'Lord, prop us up on our leanin' side.' After hearing him pray that prayer many times, someone asked him why he prayed that prayer so fervently. He answered, 'Well sir, you see, it's like this....I got an old barn out back. It's been there a long time, it's withstood a lot of weather, it's gone through a lot of storms, and it's stood for many years. It's still standing, but one day I noticed it was leaning to one side a bit. So I went and got some pine poles and propped it up on its leaning side so it wouldn't fall. Then I got to thinking 'bout that and how much I was like that old barn. I been around a long time, I've withstood a lot of life's storms, I've withstood a lot of bad weather in life, I've withstood a lot of hard times, and I'm still standing too. But I find myself leaning to one side from time to time, so I like to ask the Lord to prop us up on our leaning side, 'cause I figure a lot of us get to leaning, at times.' Sometime we get to leaning toward anger, leaning toward bitterness, leaning toward hatred, leaning toward cussing, leaning toward a lot of things that we shouldn't, so we need to pray, 'Lord, prop us up on our leaning side,' so we will stand straight and tall again, to glorify the Lord. -- Author Unknown

Yep! God IS good - ALL the time. I was having the crapiest day today. A friend I have not heard from in a while sent me the sweetest prayer in an email. It reminded me that I had not taken the time to pray today. So, I stopped then and talked to Jesus a while. I prayed for my friend, others I knew needed prayer and my own frustrations. And you know what, I feel better. Know what else, God laid a huge blessing on me out of the blue today. Thank you Lord. Praise God, He IS good ALL the time!!
Personal Testimony Yesterday was my turn to work at the Wake Co. Sheriff’s Office State Fair exhibit in the Kerr Scott building. I volunteer for a turn each year because I enjoy meeting the people who come to the fair, especially the kids, who love to get the Jr. Deputy stickers we give out. I arrived at the fair early so I could get a foot long hot dog before my shift started, and to take a little time just walking around the fair grounds. This year I especially enjoyed just watching the younger children in Kiddy Land and how they enjoyed their experience at the fair. To see the joy and happiness in a kid’s face and hearing their laughter just blesses my soul. As I worked the WCSO exhibit, passing out stickers, one little girl stands out in my mind. She was probably about 4 years old and looked a little tired from her day at the fair. She was content to be riding in her stroller. As her parents pushed her by our exhibit I asked her if she would like a sticker. She flashed a huge smile and accepted the sticker from my hand. Then, she surprised me. Without any hesitation she threw out both hands as if she wanted me to pick her up. I leaned down into her arms, and without saying a word, she grabbed me around the neck and planted a kiss on my cheek. That little act of thankfulness made my whole day. Thank you, Lord, for using that child to humble me and remind me how I should be toward others. - - - - - - - - - - Prayer of the Children: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogU48WZV8WQ&mode=related&search= Child’s Prayer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIuphB7nyVg

A good song to start the week off: Arms of Love - Kutless http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=8f714d12dc1de747133c&page=1&viewtype=&category=mr - - - - - - - We'll get a chance to make alot of choices this week. My study bible had some good questions to ask before we make a decision: If I choose one course of action... ...does it help my witness for Christ? ...am I motivated by a desire to help others to know Christ? ...does it help me do my best? ...is it against a specific command in Scripture and would thus cause me to sin? ...is it the best and most beneficial course of action? ...am I thinking only of myself, or do I truly care about the other person? ...am I actingly lovingly or selfishly? ...does it glorify God? ...will it cause someone else to sin?
Story... We were supposed to go to Kinston for a softball tournemant this weekend. It's a huge deal, with Halloween and all, and the kids really look forward to it all year long. We got rained out on Friday, and games were cancelled. Our organization decided that it wouldn't be worth the tournemant fees to go and play for only 2 games on Saturday. Friday night my transmission in my truck got very sick. Had we taken the truck to Kinston, Lord only knows where we woudld have been stuck and by what mechanic our truck would have been looked at. Lesson... God works in mysterious ways!

Good morning to all. This is the day the Lord has made! Amen? I just want to share just a portion of the morning devotional from www.lwf.org. I encourage each of you to sign up for these daily devotionals from Dr. Adrian Rogers. It's a great way to start the day. Here's what Dr. Rogers had to say this morning: The thing I love about the Old Testament is the thing I love about the New Testament. The Old Testament and the New Testament both are the inspired Word of God. Don't get the idea that the Old Testament has a different message than the New Testament. All of the Bible is about Jesus. If you read the Bible and you don't find Jesus, you better go reread it. Somebody may ask if you have read the four gospels, and you can answer them, "I've read all sixty-six!" From Genesis to Revelation, it has the same villain -- Satan. It has the same hero -- Jesus. It has the same purpose -- to present salvation in no other name but Jesus.
hEARS MINE FOR TODAY“I will pour water upon him that is thirsty.” - Isaiah 44:3 When a believer has fallen into a low, sad state of feeling, he often tries to lift himself out of it by chastening himself with dark and doleful fears. Such is not the way to rise from the dust, but to continue in it. As well chain the eagle’s wing to make it mount, as doubt in order to increase our grace. It is not the law, but the gospel which saves the seeking soul at first; and it is not a legal bondage, but gospel liberty which can restore the fainting believer afterwards. Slavish fear brings not back the backslider to God, but the sweet wooings of love allure him to Jesus’ bosom. Are you this morning thirsting for the living God, and unhappy because you cannot find him to the delight of your heart? Have you lost the joy of religion, and is this your prayer, “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation”? Are you conscious also that you are barren, like the dry ground; that you are not bringing forth the fruit unto God which he has a right to expect of you; that you are not so useful in the Church, or in the world, as your heart desires to be? Then here is exactly the promise which you need, “I will pour water upon him that is thirsty.” You shall receive the grace you so much require, and you shall have it to the utmost reach of your needs. Water refreshes the thirsty: you shall be refreshed; your desires shall be gratified. Water quickens sleeping vegetable life: your life shall be quickened by fresh grace. Water swells the buds and makes the fruits ripen; you shall have fructifying grace: you shall be made fruitful in the ways of God. Whatever good quality there is in divine grace, you shall enjoy it to the full. All the riches of divine grace you shall receive in plenty; you shall be as it were drenched with it: and as sometimes the meadows become flooded by the bursting rivers, and the fields are turned into pools, so shall you be-the thirsty land shall be springs of water. FROM QUICK VERSE
Psalm 23 - neat video with a song from Mercy Me http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=985af88da8437958f4c1&page=3&viewtype=&category=mr - - - - - - - - Psalm 23 always brings me back in perspective when the devil tries to throw me off course with his lies and schemes. The Lord is my rock, my strong tower, and my shelter. God's Word is true and faithful and I can count on Him forever! - - - - - - - - A prayer for those who are struggling through a difficult time: O Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You, hoping for all things from Your goodness. You make a root flourish beneath the soil; You can make fruitful the darkness in which I find myself today. I adore You in all Your purposes even without knowing them; Your will be done, not mine. May I be patient! It is so difficult to realize these trials, heartbreaking as they are, can be turned into blessings. Lord, give me peace of mind, peace of heart, and peace of soul, as I offer You my thoughts, my words, and my action, and yes, Lord my sufferings. May they all be for Your greater glory, Amen.
As we pray we all have that special place that we go and meet God in prayer. here's a poem that I wrote. and to all those that would take this poem and claim it as their own, it's copy writed This Special Place Written by (((JCG))) 09/20/2007 The voice I hear so soft and gentle, as the spirit speaks to me. And the comfort I feel, makes me forget my human frailty. That’s where I find that wonderful atoning grace, my God in thee. As I pray to you my God, in the stillness, where no one else can see. Down on my knees, Where all honor to You Lord, I bestow. For that price on the cross You paid, some many years ago. I give You praise and honor Lord, for You deserve it so. Yes Honor to You dear gracious Lord, is only what I show. It’s here in the quietness of this place that I begin my day. Here in this wonderful place that I am taught the way. Here on my knees, I humble myself to You Lord, and pray. It’s here Lord that You show me, everything will be okay. And I thank You Holy Lord, for this time I spend to renew. And I thank you for this feeling that can come from only You. And Lord there’s just one more thing, for me that You can do. Let many others find this special place, Lord let them find it too.
For those parents, especially mothers who lost a child through miscarriage I was watching my daughter today and marveling at how fast they grow up, and I thought about the time she was born and the joy I felt watching this new and precious life come into this world. Thank you, Lord, for this child you sent to us. Then, I thought about a co-worker of mine who just had a miscarriage. I remember how happy she was when she announced to everyone that a baby was on the way! You could just see it in her eyes and facial expression. But, in just a short time, God chose to call that tiny, unborn child to Heaven. There's no way anyone who hasn't experienced such an event understand the emotions that go through the mother and father's mind. We can only offer support for them and assure them that God is still in control. His ways are not our ways, and it may take until we finally get to Heaven that we understand why things happen the way they do. This song is for those who may have experienced such an event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM-RUCSqUyM - - - - - - - For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them. Psalm 139:13-16
