A saved person is someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Someone who believes Christ came to earth, lived a sinless life, was crucified on the cross, and defeated Death. And did all of this out of His Love for us, so that we would have a way to be in Heaven with Him and God, forever. I believe there is a difference in knowing what happened and truly believing it. Someone who is saved believes it, has professed it to others and has accepted the Holy Spirit into their hearts.
Buddha also said this: "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." But I believe Buddha left out one important aspect of the human whole - the heart (i.e. conscience, soul, spirit)... (nsanemom, please note, in all due respect, I don't believe JCG was attempting to get input from others on whether or not she is saved, or if she was trying to "work out her own salvation." In fact, I believe this to be a thread that was spawned in a discussion in a separate thread that you may not have seen.) ...every human has a heart. And we all use a combination of our reason, our common sense, and our heart to make decisions, whether it is deciding about our children, our future, our chosen mate, or just what to buy your co-worker for Christmas. I know myself, as a Christian, I use these three, and sometimes my heart overpowers the other two. Remember back just after 9/11 how everyone came together with caring and compassion for their fellow man, no matter what race, gender, or creed. That's what the heart can do. It can sometimes overpower the other senses of reason, but still you know, despite what your common sense tells you that the something is RIGHT ! you may never be able to explain it to others but you know! I have not. however, always felt this way. I grew up in church as a child, but took a rather rebellious path away from God/church for almost twenty years. During that time I experienced my share of pain, isolation, huge successes, and just plain regular "in the middle" feelings. But now, I am back close with God and I can say for me, from my heart, and my reasoning, and my common sense, that true human satisfaction comes from knowing God. I'm really not a preacher and not trying to persuade you to see as I see, just sharing. We are created in God's image and I believe that because of this we have something on the inside of us that will never be satisfied until we seek God. Believe me I have tried almost everything. God Bless, nsanemom, and you too, JCG ! As I have stated before, for some reason my posts keep turning into novels - sorry !
Well, Celebr8Him, I for one like your novels, and God bless you too. And the Bible said that this would be. 2 Peter 3:3 We are living in the last days. Jerusalem became a nation in 1948 and the Bible tells us that , Matthew 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. and we ( that generation)are getting old. I try to reach whoever I can. And thank you for your input. GB
Ya know?! I've read this. And reread this. And typed several responses ... but deleted them. And still can't find the right words to express my feelings. The only response I have is you should change your id to HolierThanThou.
Faith makes a Christian. Life proves a Christian. Trial confirms a Christian. Death crowns a Christian.
To the best of my knowledge I have or will experience all of them and I assure you I am not a Christian. 8)
A man is never so proud as when striking an attitude of humility. C. S. LEWIS (1898–1963) I stand humble before all for Jesus sake, not proud or do I brag of myself in any way, but I do hold my Lord Jesus high. For with out Him, I would be an empty shell of a person, But Jesus filled that void within me with love and compassion, even for the unbelieving. I am made whole through Jesus, By Him I live, and as of myself I have nothing to boast nor brag. High and mighty, no not I, But only the Lord Jesus Christ.
Will the real Mr./Ms. Excuse Please Stand Up? The rejection of Christ is usually not so much of the "mind" but of the "will"; not so much "I can't," but "I won't." I have met many men with intellectual excuses but few with intellectual problems (however, I have met some.) Excuses can cover a multitude of reasons. I greatly respect a man who has taken time to investigate the claims of Christ and concludes he just can't believe. I have a rapport with a man who knows why he doesn't believe (factually and historically) for I know why I believe (factually and historically). This gives us a common ground (though different conclusions). I have found that most people reject Christ for one or more reasons: 1. IGNORANCE - often self-imposed - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. - Romans 1:18-20 2. PRIDE - and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life. I do not receive glory from men; but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him. How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God? - John 5:40-44 3. MORAL PROBLEM - This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. - John 3:19-20 Source: Evidence That Demands a Verdict - Josh McDowell - pg 11 - - - - - - - If JCG doesn't mind, now is the time to discuss why we Christians believe what we believe and why non-Christians reject Jesus Christ. Topics open to whomever, especially skeptics and non-believers: The Bible and why I trust it - can it be trusted? Is it true? Jesus - Lord, Liar, or Lunatic? - Was Jesus who He said He was? God at work in History and Human Lives - If God is and is alive today, then one should be able to see His influence in the course of history as well as in individual lives. Since I or anyone else cannot be online all the time, I strongly encourage my fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ to contribute to this discussion. Don't hide your light under a bushel.
I just want to know one thing, please. You know these are Christian oriented threads when you click you mouse. and rather than just read and except or disagree with what has been said, you make it personal. attacking personally is a real non productive thing to do. Or are you just nsanemom#1 just plain mean.
As I read the thread, they quoted her FIRST...........that generally means it is directed towards the person quoted, thereby making it "personal". She was just responding to that. Nsane is one of the funniest and nicest people on here. And very good at calling it like she sees it.
So when you said: you meant, literally, only bring your Christian point of view to this thread? Because this: looks to me like a point of view about salvation. It looks like another poster assumed she was talking about you, when all she did was quote another religious leader, without comment.
. ... what ever.. . Too many hypocrites running 'round here... I know what's in my heart. And I know they aren't my judge. And that's what gets'em any way. Being able to shove the bible down one's throat and jerk it away as they see fit. ...If only they could hand down the judgments too, then their world would be perfect. If I go to Heaven, I save them a seat. If I go to Hell, I hope they 'll save one for me. /
I beleive the phraise that was used was (HolierThanThou). Non Christians seem to use that phraise an awful lot. And when they do so, I take it personally. If I was mistaken and this was not meant in any personal way, then I do appoligize. I mean no harm to anyone. You have never heard me say or will you ever that an unsaved person is going to ----. What I will do is quote the word of God. We Christians believe that the Bible, inspired by God is the true word of God. And by quoting the Bible I am upholding that truth. That being said the Bible states in John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. So you see I would not say that if one is not saved that they will burn in ----. but rather I would state the word of God. So if I have insulted you, I am sorry. By the way Christians are suppose to be just as holy as Jesus, but we all fail. that old sin nature gets us every time.
How do you know they are non-Christians? Did you ask them? How many people do you personally know who have told you they are not Christian? Do you judge everyone who is not a Christian by the one or two who have admitted such to you?
Let me see Animal Lover, how to answer your questions, #1 since I did not indicate any certain persons, then I was talking about non Christians. #2 no I did not ask each and every unsaved person whether they are Christians. #3 It’s not up to me to judge anyone. You see if by saying Holier than Thou. The Thou meaning Jesus, Then all us Christian should know that we as Christians are far, far short of His holiness. I guess next time I’ll ask who is meant by Thou. That could make a difference if the persons are not referring to Jesus. Hope you have a blessed day Animal lover. I have answered you as courteous as I know how. And if by my answer I also offended you the I apologize now. God Bless
Wow, no wonder you take offense at the expression. I have always understood the phrase "holier than thou" to mean the person being called that believes himself/herself to be better (holier) than others. "Thou" is just an old-fashioned word that means "you." If I treat you like an idiot, you would be justified in accusing me of having an attitude that I'm smarter than you. Likewise, if a person treats others as morally inferior, that person might be said to have a "holier than thou" attitude. The poster who first used that expression in this thread was not directing the remark at you, she was directing it at someone who apparently read into her earlier post more (or less) than she intended by it, and attempted to "educate" her about what your original intent was in starting this thread.
You know, I have spent a lot of time in church over the years, and somehow I never heard that "Thou = Jesus". Sounds to me like someone is trying to rationalize being rude, but whatever. This one is a lost cause.
