We were at Grandfather Mountain yesterday and YIKE! I was so petrified to death when we had to drive on the mountain edges to get up there! I have never ever seen so close to seeing down the mountain. My heart was racing so fast and my legs felt weak when I got out of the car once we got to the top. My son called me a "scarey cat" and called his Grandma over the cell phone, saying I looked green. LOL. My husband wants to take us to see the Chimney Rock, Banner Elk for the Land of Oz event, next year. I don't know if I want to go there if they have high mountain egde driving, do they? I don't want to get sick again :(

    Oh man...LOL
    Love those mountain edges!! (not!)
Its even worse when you have an 18 wheeler behind you and they have to hit one of those "runaway truck ramps", omg, my heart STOPS.

Well, hate to be the bearer of bad news but...it doesnt get much better around the Chimney Rock area. I suggest not sitting in the front seat, sit in the back with a book or an Ipod and maybe even a sleeping pill. :D

But I recommend Chimney Rock, its totally worth it!
Also, check out this place: http://www.mysteryhill-nc.com/

    Seriously, its the COOLEST.

does going over bridges bother you too? every time I cross a bridge of any length my heart seems to go to my throat.

As soon as I set my foot on a bridge, it was swinging and I started to freak out. So I headed back. The rest of my family went on it. They said their hearts was racing fast when they feel swinging, thanks to strong wind. Geez!

How about tunnels, I just went through the Ted Williams myself.

Few years ago the local Sales Representative and myself were heading up to the dry-docks in the Norfolk area and she was driving. What she forgot to tell me was that she was terrified of tunnels. She was not paying attention and shortly we were in a tunnel and she was screaming and waving her hands around/. After grabbing the steering wheel I just had to laugh, or I would like to think that is what I did.

To show you how stupid we can be when we are young...

When I was in high school, we used to get a caravan of Jeeps and trucks, and go "4-wheelin" in the snow, in the Shenandoah Mountains. Inevitably, we'd end up on a really narrow path with a straight up edge on one side...and a straight down edge on the other...remember, we're in the snow. It was a little scary for us "wimmin".

To make it even more foolish, each vehicle was equipped with the essentials: one beat up charcoal grill & charcoal, a cooler with hamburger patties and buns, a roll of toilet paper....and a gallon of "Electric Koolaid."

For those not familiar with the area around Franklin County, VA...Electric Koolaid is moonshine mixed with Koolaid.

I remember one time my date got his Bronco stuck, and he had his hand in the steering wheel when it got "unstuck", and the wheel whipped around and broke his wrist with a really sickening sound. Since it takes several hours to get down the mountain, they plied him with the Koolaid to kill the pain. When we finally got out of the ER late that night, he was so out of it on alcohol and pain killers, that we had to keep him from shooting his cat. In his messed up state, he suddenly decided it was old and in pain and needed to be put out of it's misery.:)

You wouldn't like the drive I have to work. There are several hair pin curls and the tallest part of the pass is about 12,000 ft. above sea level. I just take my time and enjoy the ride.

 Me and DH1 went to the mountains in the winter after it had snowed. We had a 79 TransAm. They HAVE NO TRACTION IN SNOW! No... he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. We got on one of those 'edges' and started sliding sideways! ... I think that's a feeling I'll never forget!
