If you are a Christian parent, be cautious about allowing your child to see "The Golden Compass" to beginning showing in December at movie theatres across the country. The stories are very anti-Christian and directly targeted your children to convince them that God is evil and weak. freedom of choice I seem to recall a time in the history of the world when people were given a choice. The choice was to follow the plan of Lucifer which would MAKE all people choose the right path or to follow God's plan and allow people free agency. From what I remember, the plan of free agency was chosen and Lucifer and his followers were cast out. The result of this was that we have the choice to choose between good and evil, repent when we fall short, and depend on Jesus to make up for our shortcomings because we all will fall short of perfection. I am under the impression that this is the basis for most Christian religions. If I'm wrong, I do apologize. If I am correct, then isn't the book "The Golden Compass" only supporting Christian beliefs? In the books, a bad power is attempting to separate children from their consciences. The children are lost and incomplete without them. This seems like something that needs to be battled. When I read the book, it was a while ago. It was before I heard any of this stuff about it being evil. When I read it, I wasn't thinking of relating it to our present situation. The world in the book is set up differently. It is fantasy. The only rule in fantasy is that good tries to overcome evil. I feel the same about Harry Potter. Sure, it was a fantasy world of witches and wizards, but essentially, people who were honest, good, loyal and brave were trying to overcome evil, power hungry villians. It makes a good story and it makes you want to be a better, braver person. The main characters in these books have a lot more to offer than the main characters in most of the books and movies we watch. I haven't seen so much fuss about movies which show everyone sleeping around, cheating, drinking, and basically doing really bad things, but the story still portrays them as good people because they are only human. I do think we shouldn't get so excited about these fantasy books.
Hey, if you're not a Christian, I guess you may not think it applies to you. My intent is to remind Christian families that this guy wrote the stories to defame Christianity. If you are a Christian, it would seem to me that giving this guy $25 bucks of your money knowing that he hates you as a Christian and belittles God's gift of salvation, would be serious business. Choose your path, but I don't mind taking a stand for my God. He took the cross for me.
'this guy' doesn't have that kind of power, nor does a Hollywood movie....if your beliefs are strong, Hollywood movies don't stand a chance.... also, 'that guy' doesn't know me, and I am pretty sure he doesn't hate me... judge not fellow Christian....tisk tisk :shock::roll:
Ummm... No. It's quite obvious that you are one of those who simply passes on information without verifying it first. (And, of course, refuse to accept the truth over what your belief's are.) In fact Mr. Pullman is not against Christianity, he is against the same thing Christ was against. That is the dogmatism that is rampant in the church.

What's really annoying is the knowledge that, within five posts, someone one will suggest that Mr. Pullman's words are not actually his belief, and they will offer some pseudo-Christian blog as proof.
If that is your find, so be it. But what you are saying is that you take this man for his word and believe, without a doubt, he is telling the truth. Glad to see you put that much faith in a man you have never met, talked to or even had a brief glimpse of. Carry on..... (oh....I am so anxious to see what comes next I am almost giddy!)
