Sounds like Mama Brawley has plans to try to ride the Jena 6 wave. Guess the $300,000+ defense fund that she and her lying daughter ran away to Virginia with years ago is all used up now and she's looking for more. :roll:
I lived in NYC during this period and remember the case vividly. It was all the rage and Al Sharpton stirred the pot. A local reporter, Mike Taibbi, who is on Dateline now wrote a whole book on it showing that it was a fraud concocted by Tawana to avoid getting in trouble for leaving home. How they plan to re-open this is beyond me since she was proven unequivocally to be a LIAR!
That's what I wonder too. There is no evidence to support it actually occurring...yet there is a lot of evidence to suggest that it was Tawana and her mother that perpetrated it as a hoax: She was allegedly held in the woods for days while all this occured, yet she showed no signs of exposure - despite below freezing temps. Her clothes were charred, yet there were no burns on her body. The rape kit showed absolutely no signs of sexual assault. An examination at the hospital showed she had brushed her teeth within the past 24 hours. The racial slurs that were written on her body were written upside down...as though she had written them herself. She was seen by a neighbor crawling into the trash bag she was found in. She was seen by classmates at parties during the 4 days she was supposed to have been abducted and been held in the woods. Items needed to perpetrate the hoax were found in the vacant apartment she and her mother had recently occupied. Her mother was seen going into the vacant apartment the afternoon Tawana was found at the complex. The feces on her body were found to be from her neighbor's dog.
I lived in NY at that time also. And her lies caused alot of trouble. When the truth came out she ran. Even some of the people who were giving her family money backed out when they found out she was lying.
Doesn't look like Sharpton is anxious to jump back into this one. (From the same story linked above.)
