I have the DC 14. (older) and it is good, but to be honest I dont see a huge difference than my Dirt Devil tunnel. A friend has the Dyson Animal hair one and LOVES it. It is newer and maybe has better features. The one thing I dislike is the hose thingy is hard to get out. My dirt devil has it on the back, just unhook and use. The dyson has it in the handle, so you have to take the handle off and use it as a stick extension, or take that apart more to have the flexible hose. It has great suction, but so does my Dirt Devil.... just my 2 cents!
My sis has one and swears by it. I couldn't quite swallow the $$$ price tag, I just got a Eureka Capture and am pretty pleased so far except that it is HEAVY. That and the hose it a bit of a pain too.
WE have the Animal one. Dh cleans, not me, but he LOVES it! I think it is too loud, but I don't have to vacuum so I don't care if played show tunes We got it on sale at Linens 'N Things AND used a coupon so we got a good deal on it. I'd say it's worth it.
Dyson is the shabomb! I love my Dyson and would not trade it for any. I am pretty hard on my vacuums (use them frequently. I am some what of a clean freak!) I love ours because it has the bare floor and carpet. We have hardwoods and I vacuum those before cleaning! I bough mine at Kohls on sale and with a 30% coupon!! I have had it for several years and love it. My sis has the animal one and she loves hers as well!!!
I have the animal dyson and wouldn't trade it for anything. I gave up a rainbow to use it and it does a terrific job. Got mine at Linen and things with a 20% off coupon.
I also have the animal Dyson and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! You wouldn't believe how well it picks up animal hair and anything else for that matter. Shop around....matter of fact, there is a pawn shop in Selma (also sales used cars - but don't remember the name - before you get Downtown) and they usually have one brand new in the box and never opened. If anyone knows the name of the place, you may want to call them first. If I recall, he had really good prices on them.
My wife and I gave up a Kirby which was nice but a mechanical pain. We bought a Dirt Devul bagless. It's OK but only seems to do a partial job. We have 4 cats and have been thinking about a Dyson for some time. I will keep my eyes peeled for a coupon to Kohl's or Linens & Things.
If you have critters, nothing beats a Purple Animal - NOTHING! If you don't have critters, any Dyson will do a great job. I've had mine close to 4 years now - never had a vacuum last more than a year and a half since I've had a houseful of long-haired animals. I typically vacuum twice a day. Did the Hoover upright and wind tunnel varieties. . .the Sears Progressive canister (which ran over 300.00 bucks) it did a good job for about a year and then pretty much burned up. Also, my Dyson had a minor problem about 6 months ago - after using it, I couldn't get it to lock in the upright position - I had bumped it fairly hard on a furniture leg by accident - anyway, I called the 800 number, gave them the serial number of my Dyson and told them approx when I bought it and where (Target) and the rep. took me through 4 easy steps (without tools - just hands) and helped me fix in within 2 minutes! Ya can't beat that! I've seen many a Dyson Purple Animal in homes with critters - I'm not the only fan of them!
Purple Animal in our house. Got turned onto Dysons by my sister, who said, get one, use your old vacuum to do the floor, close the doors and draw the blinds, and redo the job with the Dyson. She said we'd be amazed by how much stuff the old one left, and the Dyson got. The doors/blinds thing was to prevent being embarrassed by how dirty the floors were. I recommend two appliances... A Dyson vacuum and the RONCO Set it and forget it... I do the vacuuming and the cooking.
I don't like to vacuum enough to spend more than 79.95 on a vacuum. That's why I have about 85% of my house in hardwoods.
I agree. The price tag for the Dyson was just too high. I landed up buying Eureka's The Boss Smartvac. Consumer reports rated it higher than Dyson. I can't remember if it was rated 1 or 2, but if it was #2, the one above it, as well as most of the ones under it were over a hundred dollars more (and some were several hundred more, like Dyson). I'm very happy with the Eureka. It has incredible suction power. It is heavy though, but since I don't have stairs to lug it up, it doesn't matter to me.
The lovely little hoover vacuum I have now has been with me for over 7 years now. I keep the bag checked and dump it out when it's full. Which that usually increases it' suck.
I have the purple animal dyson and wouldn't trade it for anything. I have a black lab and a white bulldog that both shed. The dyson gets all of the hair up, no problems. You won't believe the stuff the Dyson could pull out of your carpet. Would recommend it with no hesitation.
I have the Purple Animal Dyson and have had it for almost 4 years. I absolutely love it and would not trade it for anything. It does an excellent job and is very easy to use and maintain. It is well worth the money. It is the only vacuum that I have had that has lasted this long.....my house is rough on vacuums (animals, kids, etc.)
I Got One My wife and I got our Dyson DC17 today. Oh My God! That is the coolest thing. Here I am raving about a vacuum!
Welcome to the club, stone... the only two appliances that I recommend are the Dyson vacuums and the Ronco Set It and Forget It. Great cleaning, Great cooking.... enjoy Carl
:-D So glad you're happy with it! It will be good to you for a long, long time! Ohhhh, almost forgot - did anyone see the ad for the new hand dryer by Dyson? It looks amazing! I can't wait to go into a public restroom and see one! Probably be some time before they are seen somewhere, but if anyone does, please post it! I know it sounds dorky, but I loathe those forced air dryers.
