I have read and read and searched and searched and I don't find ANYTHING about Pullman hating God or Christianity....can you not post the links you are getting your information from?
All I found was other articles/people referring to the Washington Post article. All hearsay, no links/no proof. The only thing I DID find on Washington Post was that it was a Book Of The Month selection.
Ditto... I mean, anyone can say anything about anyone and spin it....it just blows me away that people can't /don't make up their own minds and will do what 'others' say. And they want to control the way their children think. I and my kids have read the series, and we still believe in God. Go figure.
Oh? Who sent it, then? And, of course, you can provide a link to the article, just as I provided a link to a discussuion with Mr. Pullman wherein he said he wasn't against Christianity, but was against it's dogmas. And I am not going to judge a movie based on an anonymous email. If I hear that a movie, or a book says so and so, I will research and find out for myself. This is why I know (not believe, mind you, but KNOW) that there is nothing in either the book or the movie "where Christianity is labeled as wrong", nor is there anywhere in the book or the movie is there "an undermining assault on the core of the Christian family." I think that's quite obvious. If you don't believe in something, you don't bother to find out if your sources are correct, you simply post your incorrect knowledge to the world. Again with your lies. That's the only way I can put it. I have presented a link wherein Mr. Pullman states that he is not against Christianity, and you tell me there is some article that you fail to present where he says he is. Now, why should I believe you, when I have the man's words right in front of me?
I think from my understanding he is an Atheists... (does not belive in God) and to me personally as a Christian I do not agree with that way of thinking or belief, so I will not see the movie at all. With that being said no I have not read he hates God, but not believing in God "to me" is Anti-Christ (against Christ) so that is probably what people are thinking about hating God??? Now I have "read" that in the movie they kill God... and if that is the case then.... well enough said! I have read this too.... as a quote from the Sydney Morning Herald.... "The series' author, Philip Pullman, is an avowed atheist who has averred that "I don't profess any religion; I don't think it's possible that there is a God; I have the greatest difficulty in understanding what is meant by the words 'spiritual' or 'spirituality.'" Critics of Pullman's books point to the strong anti-religion and anti-God themes they incorporate, and although literary works are subject to a variety of interpretations, Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview with The Sydney Morning Herald that 'My books are about killing God.'" He will not kill My God anyway!
I am glad you said that, and I feel like I can ask you this, and you won't go crazy on me. So what does his religious beliefs (or anyone's for that matter), have to do with how he produces a movie, or writes a book, drives a car, buys his clothes, etc? Just Curious.
Yes, everyone can make up their own mind's and decisions for themselves. They also can state their own opinions and feelings for themselves. And if stated here, like ANY OTHER topic, should be discussed without all the "politically correct" junk. If the post was about a Stephen King novel or movie, the conversation would be NOWHERE near what it is now.
I totally get that and assume that, but I figure I can ask calm, cool and pregnant Dawn, since she said she wouldn't go see it, based on what she has heard/read.
I think Cleo's link did that well enough, but it is not that difficult anyway. All you have to do is read your very own 'good book'. It has all of the answers, right? I'll humor you...the conversation will probably start with your kid, we'll call him Rufus, asking why the neighbors don't go to church like your family does. Then it hits you..."Well, not everyone believes the way we do, Rufus, and that is okay. It doesn't make them bad people, just different and we should work hard to accept all people as they are." If you need any more help parenting your child, send them to daycare.
Am I to understand that the only reason you will not see this movie is because he is an atheist? That strikes me as an odd reason. If you don't want to see the movie, I'm not telling you that you should. But if the reason is because he is an atheist, then you'd better be ready to stop a lot of stuff because the source of it is an atheist. HERE is a list. Start removing books and movies from your life as you see fit. Did you like "The Old Man and the Sea"? Oops, Papa Hemmingway was an atheist. Gotta chuck it. Did you like "Pygmalian" (or "My Fair Lady")? Oops, George Bernard Shaw was an atheist too. Toss it up on the fire. Like the weekly Dave Barry article? Sorry, he's an atheist as well. How about that little thing called the Declaration of Independence? Nope, sorry. Thomas Jefferson was an atheist. Looks like you gotta go back to singing "God Save the Queen"
That's pretty much how I explained stuff to my kid, Harvey. Been doing it since he could talk. Now, I can't even make a joke about somebody without getting the stink-eye from him. The student has surpassed the teacher.
If the post was about Carrie being anti-Christian and Stephen King being called anti-christian, all without one single shread of evidence, other than an anonymous email, I'd be right here telling you the same thing. If you don't want to partake, fine. That's your business. What's not your business is spreading rumours about the book or movie that you have no direct knowledge of.
Maybe because the movie hasn't been releases yet, you twit. I am sure when the critics get a chance to review they can spoon feed you your opinions. In any case, here are some user reviews of the book: http://www.amazon.com/review/produc...05825-0146058?_encoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
Not at all.... Never would "I" think your sexuality determines your childrens sexuality! I personally belive in God and in the Bible 100% and choose to raise my child (soon to be children) that way. I do not personally think that Killing God is a way of art or something that I believe is ok at all, just like being an Atheist to me is not right. Like I said I personally think he is Anti-Christ which I do not see how any one can argue with that when he is not for Christ. He can believe how he wants to, and that is ok. I choose to believe in God 100% and love that I feel that way. I choose to not agree with messages that are not for Christ, that is all! This movie is a public movie and anyone can see it! I do not care if they do, I just will not see it and will not bring my child either.
Ouch. Very strong rhetoric, there. Here's another link... http://www.baylor.edu/SOE/news.php?action=story&story=46272
Well, Windows still doesn't boot up with anti-Christian messages. There's a difference in being an atheist and being anti-Christian.
WOW...lots of different opinions flying. It almost, IN MY OPINION ONLY, looks like that people want the candy coated version of the movie, God, Christianity and anything else in that arena. People seem to think that people who believe in the Christian faith should compromise their beliefs for the sake of not offending anyone. Atleast that is how it is coming across. Shoot, you may as well hang that up! SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE will ALWAYS be offended. And yes, I said "compromise". Look, guys and gals, Christianity is not and easy life to live at times. Anyone who tells you different is lying to you or trying to sell you something. There are no "gray" areas. PERIOD. No, it should not be shoved on anyone. But just because it is discussed doesn't mean it is being "shoved" all the time. If you ask a Christian for what they think, feel, observe, know or whatever, then respect and receive the answer your given. YOU asked, THEY answered. Feel how you want and respond how you want. But don't come down on the person for the answer YOU asked for. This may be a poor example but it's like people who ask 3 different people for an answer to a question and they know that they will get a different answer but they choose to believe the answer that makes them feel comfortable. If it doesn't, the person who gave the unpopular answer is judgmental, condemning, criticizing, crazy, pushy, you name it. That attitude is worse than someone trying to push religion on someone else......
