We just found out that someone turned on our gas grill outside and now there's no gas in the tank. What a crazy, mean joke whoever did. My hubby is now all upset because we were going to have BBQ rib/roasted corn on cob/sweet potatoes for dinner, but right now he's out on the road and had to get a new gas tank. Is there a way to protect our gas grill? I mean how to lock the knobs? I don't feel safe by putting it in our garage. Any suggestion?
Someone actually stole our grill. A nice cast iron sear/roast!! Backed up to our porch, drug it along the deck and loaded it up! Our new one is padlocked to the deck... still figure they could get it if they really tried, but it may deter someone. It was during the day and I live on a corner and that side is just 30 feet or so from the road, so they had guts. Sorry about your gas. Hope you still got your yummy dinner!

We use a heavy duty cable lock on ours (should be able to put it onto the tank also) that coupled with it being very large and hard to remove from the deck keeps it pretty safe. Of course my hybrid grill only has a 1 gallon tank on it, which makes it useless for most grills.
Maybe just store the tank in your garage? Do you keep it covered? I've never heard of anything like this happening before. But if they had to lift or remove a 'cover' it might deter people.
Could it possibly be due to one of your kids having turned on the grill, if you have kids. Several times at our house the grill gets left on because the hubby is in such a big hurry to eat he forgets to turn the grill off or we've also had a tank that had a leak. Just wondering if any of these could've happened because that's just crazy that someone would turn your gas tank on just for kicks.
We have a big dog that sounds mean, and just might be mean, and at least keeps anyone thinking about coming into the yard uninvited guessing. We also have a fence. And a motion detector light. and a cover for the grill with cinch belts so it won't blow off and between all of those things--we've never had a problem. 8)
None of us left it on by accident because we clean up the area (patio, table, etc) after we eat and we could've noticed it if the fire is still left on. Our next door neighbor got their grill stolen, so it looks like an idiot didn't like our grill so he or she decides to steal the one next door's. Good idea about cable wire attached to the patio. We're guessing who stole it: construction workers nearby.
Well, what kind of grill do you have? Do you have ceramic burners? I might come and steal it if you do. j/k!
