...not really just a thought since I'd like an answer... if some of you smart folks can... What's the largest diameter a tree could be for a car to crash into it and it still not stop the car? Hardwood and softwood. Wouldn't density make a difference? ...say ... the car is going 45 mph ... No. I don't know why I want to know .... It just popped in my head.
There are far to many variables to consider to come up with a single number. As well as the density of the wood fibers (as you correctly suspected), the size and type of vehicle, as well as the angle of impact would be factors. Even whether or not the tree might have a disease or the car might have some inherent defect.
Ok. at 45 in my truck, hit a 1 inch around tree. Not a thing happened. Tree bent...lol It was an oak... want me to go bigger? I saw a SUV on the news this week that hit a tree. Looked like it was between the driver and passenger. Is this the wreck that got ya thinking?
c/mon Clif. Sure you can figure it out. Use T4T's method. Since she is starting on the small end...how about if you start on the larger end. Let's say....hmmmm....start with a....a redwood (take a roadtrip to the forest out there - we'll wait) and find the biggest tree there (no cheating by using the one with the hole cut through it for cars either). Let us know what your findings are. :lol:j/k
I've never run into a tree but I did hit a building one time. So if you have any questions on that maybe I can answer those. 8)
DANG it! But thanks for the answer anyway! I don't know where this crap comes from but it's there... :? The FIL had a friend that calculated when the next time would be that they would run out of toilet paper. He was USAF ... when he always came back home seems he was the lucky one it ran out on. He figured, on average, how many people (all girls) how many times per day (for all thee bathroom events that females have) and how many squares per use. I think he got it right by a day or two. Just a brain thang I guess... use it or lose it...
See....that's why Clif needs you to go with him...so he will pick the BIGGEST tree first.:mrgreen:
Actually they closed them all. It seems that, after fifity or sixty years, they figured out the exhaust was doing even more damage than cutting a hole through it.
Nope - he'd be taking notes for Clif. They'd be Clif's notes though, when Ken got finished taking them for Clif (since Clif would be driving & all) Ken notes....now theres an idea:mrgreen:8)
