Apparently there are more and more lawsuits coming up over what people are posting online. News Article
Ummm defamation is spreading an UNTRUTH. If these people were telling their opinion why is that untrue? Also...where was the editor on this piece? "A group of parents in Argyle, Texas, are so angry with the Argule school district's superintendent, Jason Ceyanes, that that they posted the details of his divorce proceedings on the Web." Am I wrong?
I actually received a letter from an individual's lawyer threatening to sue me for defamation resulting from someone else's 4042 postings. The individual threatening to sue had definitely been guilty of "defamation" by posting untruths - but I was not. I called the lawyer & the individual, explained I was taping the conversation, told them what I thought of the situation & then begged them to sue me. In the end, the lawyer was very kind. He had only heard one side of the story before my call. He said the letter was only written because he thought he was doing a favor for the individual's husband who was a teammate on a local sports team. Although I was aggravated at the time, it seems pretty funny now.
I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate. If I were to create a webpage where I called ServerSnapper a child molestor and gave an entire diatribe, including promises of proof (no matter how false it may be) are you saying that he couldnt stop it unless he could prove that there was some physical loss?
Ah, I see how I misunderstood. A law suit isn't only brought on for the money (although these days law suits are viewed more like a lottery).
Just read on page 2A of the USA TODAY newspaper that the Town of Dardenne Prairie, MO is voting tonight to criminalize online harrasement in their juridiction. Punishable by a $500 fine and 90 days in jail; wonder how they are going to enforce that?
I don't see how they can. Email....Posts like this...All can me manipulated with the right technology.
I am kinda confused. Was that done to the woman who created the online account or the family of the deceased girl who 's getting the treatment?
Again....EXACTLY! Sue happy people can get themselves into a whole bunch of trouble. I've done a bit of research on the subject.8)
If you read the article, it is quite obvious that the person being harassed is the woman who created the phony myspace account.
Good move Bet that calmed them down fast It amazes me how often people throw the term "slander" around and threaten to sue without even knowing what slander really is. Ignorance can be so sad.
This is why I don't post anything I wouldn't want my Mom to read or go to sites I wouldn't want her to see. Keeps me out of trouble for the most part........................nothing you do on the internet is anonymous if someone wants to find it bad enough.
Well I must admit I am slightly dislexic....I can't read a paragraph without starting over ten times!!! That is why I asked my question earlier to Clif about my confusion. It's not that I can't read...it's that my mind wants to read it out of order. So when it comes to you professional writers who get long winded...I scan over your paragraph...then I make a dumb *** remark. Does this have anything to do with what we are currently talking about?? Hell no. I just got back to Clif's comment about READING!!
