I am trying to relocate to NC. We were in the area in Oct, but only for 2 days. I had heard about Cleveland from another message board, but I am not getting lots of info about it. Are there rentals available? What type of town is it? Is it a town, or a subdivision of something else?:?:
Cleveland is really none of the above...it's an area really. If you find the intersection of I-40 & NC 42 that is the general area. Some of it is considered Clayton, some of it is considered Garner.
It's a horrible place to live, and the schools really suck. We've stopped building new homes, so you won't be able to find a nice house to live in.:mrgreen::mrgreen:
One thing you need to understand is there really is a Cleveland, NC, which is about 150 miles away. However, what the people around here generally talk about is the Cleveland area (named after Cleveland School Road, I believe) and has no connection with the actual town of Cleveland.
But if you're into gangs, drugs, gang-bangs, drive-bys, serial killers, child molestors, big evil churches, people driving 60 in the fast lane, bicycle riders owning the road, detours, water shortages and mexicans wearing pants while swimming, you're looking at the right place!
I've only driven through a few parts of it. Its very "country" almost, lots of open fields. Nice homes, everyone there is super nice but I dont recall seeing any houses for rent though.
I just know that it was supposed to be part of Clayton. I am looking for a place that would be an easy commute to Raleigh, but not live in a place directly next to a strip mall.
Well, at the rate it's growing, you'd be living next to a strip mall or walmart, etc..... space-cowboy..good one:mrgreen:
Try Archers Lodge...its also considered "Clayton" but I think they are trying to re-zone to become their own town. That might be what you are looking for. And welcome! I believe we have spoken on the "other board".
Then you should come to Clayton. We're much nicer here. As of next year, the commute from Clayton to Raleigh will be much nicer. We're building a bypass of the main rout, which will really screw up the commute from the 4042 (Cleveland) area, while making our commute a dream cruise. Oh, then you definitely don't want the 4042 (Cleveland) area, which is almost all strip mall. But not just strip mall, it's those ugly metal storage building looking things that go on for a mile or two.
Honestly, you probably don't want to LIVE in Cleveland, it is pretty much all commercial. I live near the 50/42 intersection, just 5 minutes from Cleveland and I love it. It's nice to live nearby the conveniences, but not in it! It's kind of confusing right here if you don't know the area, because I live in Garner, which is mostly in Wake County, but I am in Johnston County. And right down the road is considered Raleigh, even though it really isn't. And then, like I said, Clayton is nearby too. So if you want to be near the Cleveland area, those are probably the two towns you should be looking at. And if you have kids that are in school, that's a whole other can of worms...I would never put my kids in Wake County schools (that's why I moved to Johnston County when my son was 5) because it's horrendous!! Good luck to you, and hope this helps! And don't listen to the others, a lot of them don't like new people moving in their territory, but they're just messing with you!
Thanks, I appreciate the honesty. I will have one that starts kindergarten in the fall, so schools are important. I have no idea what "cleveland" is, that is why I asked. I drove down 2 streets in Clayton when I was there. I saw Candlewood Apts. which were nice, but no amenities like a pool, etc. So, I really do not think I got an idea of neighborhoods in Clayton or Garner, sort of hard to judge when you are driving around clueless.
Actually, yes, I have always been cheating on you. Its a city-data board for the triangle. Mostly people looking to re-locate and the locals trying to help them.
I actuallly moved here from Wake County (Raleigh) where I lived my entire life. We moved here for the schools (so much better) and for the people (believe it or not, everyone is so nice here). We also bought a new house. That same new house that is also offered up in Raleigh (same floor plan, company, etc) is about twice the price as the one here in Clayton. Cheaper taxes, more land, etc. It was a no-brainer for us. Plus the beach is about an hour & a half from here too, great shopping in Clayton, in Garner and in Smithfield. Location is prime. I absolutely love it here! Oh, and its QUIET....I'm still not used to it. Even the teenagers here are nice..its weird...lol. (but a good weird!)
Didn't somebody just get in trouble for not shutting the door!?! Cleveland is more like a general area rather than a town or city. You can own/rent in Garner, Clayton, Willow Spring and heck even Benson and be lump summed into the Cleveland area. A semi-rural feel in most Cleveland area places but not if that darn door don't stay shut!
