Okay...it's time to fess up. What is the best Christmas present you ever got...and the worst Christmas present you ever got?
Both were the same gift A Hot Wheels track We had the 2nd floor to ourselves and we had tracks and cars running/flying everywhere. The negative, my Mother discovered the flexible tracks were perfect for beating the kids when they screwed up.
Hugh, I feel your pain. My Momma wielded that orange track like a Ninja Warrior. Never bought them for my son because to the flashbacks and bad memories... Best...(1) C6's acceptance of marriage proposal which then led to (2) something special ( lil sumpin' sumpin)...every Christmas morning..and that's all I'm saying. Worst...phone call letting me Know Momma had had a heart attack...still not over it years later. I don't celebrate Christmas anyway, as a Jewnatiarian. We have a blended family now, so I try to compensate by concentrating on DD and my LOML, C6
I'm not really sure I could say what was my best in childhood. There are many that are fondly remembered, each special in their own right. Now in adulthood, I'd say my wife's surprise super soft leather coat she bought me about 10 years ago. I try to "service" it each year and its still like new.
Hot wheels track whoopin's - Augh .... That memory is burned into my behind & head. Circa 1973. Augh. Did we have the same Ninja Mom? Are you both my long lost brothers? LOL! I saw a piece of that evil track a few years ago at a Yard Sale. I had to have an alone moment to compose my self in the car.
No question about it, the best gift I ever had as a kid was a cherry-red Honda Mini Trail, 70 cc, 3 speed automatic! Toughest piece of equipment I ever had. Could ride it anywhere, under any conditions. Rode it across the Neuse River many times with the tail pipe barely out of the water. Always cranked with just a kick or two.
LOL! I have no idea why, but one year my Mom gave me some horribly ugly maroon polyester dress pants. I tease her about them to this day. I was 12! :?
Worst (yet thoughtful) I got a "Dino-roar" baby toy when I was like, 23 years old from a guy I was dating. He worked at a toy store and thought I would like it. Not sure what that was about...lol. Best: My SO's grandmother made me a fleece throw. Its two pieces of fleece and they are tied together all around at the ends. Its red with orange cats on it. My orange cat (Scooby) and I LOVE this blanket.
My worst was..... underwear (by that I mean clean and packaged of course..LOL) under the Christmas tree when I was a kid... My best was not found under the tree, but around the tree on Christmas morning, that being my family and love. Grandma Peekaboo
I have one of those on my desk! Along with a cat that poops jelly beans! Speaking of beatings - - - my mama used to get me one of those paddles with a ball on a string on it and by the time Easter rolled around the string had broke and she was using it to whoop my behind. That leaves a mark!
NO WONDER.....you are a 'cross-the-laker, aren't you? What is this with all of the Mama-hot wheels track whippin's? Man, I thought I was the ONLY one! Was it a northern thing?
Oops, forgot to add mine... Best - Vroom Bike (not just the motor attachment, but the whole bike!) Worst - Toy helicopter One day, just before Christmas, I decided to stay home from school. Both my parents worked, so while I stayed home, I unwrapped one of my presents which was under the tree. It was a toy helicopter that I wanted really bad (the helicopter was attached to a cable which itself was attached to something that looked like a flashlight. Pressing a button on the flashlight part made the blades spin and the helicopter fly). While playing with it, I brok it. I had to rewrap it so no one would know it was opened, then on Christmas morning I had to unwrap it and pretend to be surprised, but since it was broke I couldn't play with it. All because I cheated.
