Cell Phone Repeaters/Signal Amplifiers

We currently use Sprint as our cell phone carrier. The service is great - except in our house. We have to walk to the top of our driveway for a decent signal. If I hang the phone out of my upstairs window I get 3 bars. Downstairs, inside of the house I have 1 bar that comes & goes. We've actually tried a few different cell providers and have always had problems in the house. I wanted to buy a repeater or amplifier so we could get a better signal in the house. Has anyone ever used one of these - If so what did you use, how much did it cost, & how well did it work?

I had the same problem. I changed providers a couple of times, but it didn't help. What finally solved my problem was buying a good phone, rather than settle for one that is free when you sign the contract.

I had noticed a friend who always seemed to have a great signal in my apartment and asked her who her provider was. She had the same one as me, so I decided to try the same brand phone as her and have been fine ever since.

I don't use a cell phone enough for it to matter to me - I'm ok with the freebie. I work from home so my cell phone is only used when I'm out shopping or something silly. My phone is pretty basic. However, my husband's phone seems to have lots of bells & whistles. He uses his phone primarily for business purposes. He's currently using a palm trio - which is a step down from the last one he had. I honestly have never checked to see if its a freebie or not - but I'm assuming they don't give those things away. In any case - both of us have about the same luck using our cell phones in the house - even though his is a nicer phone. We would be willing to pay more for his phone if it gave us a better signal - but so far the folks at the cell counters haven't been able to help us out. I'm hoping an amplifier or repeater will correct the problem ... but if the folks at the cell counter could point us in the direction of a cell phone that would work in our house I'm sure it would be an easy sale.

I have heard of them but have no experience with them at all. What I have heard has been good.

I was hoping you would comment on this thread. From reading past posts I knew you had some experience with cell phones. What do people in the "business" usually suggest? Does signalboosternc sound like the best route to go? I saw lots of different repeaters & amplifiers on Ebay - but I wasn't sure about those. Even though I may be able to find a less expensive option from ebay - I want to make sure it would do the job before I spent my money. Sprint's website mentions something called a PCS Repeater TCER300 which runs about $359. I tried checking Consumer Reports for advice on this - but I really didn't see anything. I like the idea of signalboosters being a local company - but I don't know if they are the biggest bang for my buck. I know you get what you pay for ... but I still want to spend my money wisely. I really like that signalboosternc is local and they offer a free trial ... However, I don't want to waste their time or mine. Before I have them come out, I want to make sure they are the best option. Signal Booster's cost is $299 for the equipment + I believe $150 for installation. Are these things hard to install? Is it worth the $150 (or whatever the cost was) to have these things installed professionally? Thanks for any advice.

Oh, for crissakes, WS, quit whining. Remember...I offered to help but all you wanted to do was cry about it. I told you, you probably have a cheap phone because you are a cheap person and live wayyyyyy off the beaten path from any local road. I also told you that if you were in an area that did not have signal, they would let you out of your contract if you would have let me help you. I also offered to change your SIM card for FREE. But...guess what? Too late...I am no longer in the business so I have no more pull. You wasted time by whining and complaining and when the help was there and offered, you spit in my face. Serves you right for being a jerk.

BTW....mine still works fine. As a matter of fact.......all THREE of mine work fine. RAZR, KRZR and Blackberry. My wife's Nokia works fine and my son's Sony Ericsson works fine. Four different companies and five different models. Sounds like your story STILL holds no water.

I know the guy I used to work for recently is in the business of repeaters and signal boosters but he does it on a much larger scale (Hospitals, large office buildings, etc). You can give him a call and ask his advice if you like. The company is RL Cellular Installation. His name is Angel Perez. Good guy. Knows his stuff. He has been working with cellular as long as I had. He used to be my installer for hard wired car phones when I worked for GTE over 10 years ago. He will be able to give you some good advice on what you need.

Here is his website and contact info:

i don't get it, Devil lives right near me and i have yet to have any of our phones or friends phones (all different carriers) have any problem getting a signal inside our house. i believe that Blus lives close by us too so saying his phones have no problem with service really does not mean a whole lot. What i am getting from this and previous threads is that there are dead zones and it really does not matter what type of phone you have.

Well it would have been better if you had abided by the forum rules regarding advertising but knowing where your info came from regarding this site, i guess it is understandable:lol:

No problem, just trying to give you a heads up. Your friend got into quite a bit of hot water for repeated blatant advertising on the forum and just trying to prevent you from going through the same thing. Good luck in your business.

  17. an answer...

I was referred here by a resident of your area..I will not post again,
but I did not want my FAQ's post to get lost in all the replies so I posted again...of course I want to help, but will only discuss "bizness" with those that contact us thru the website. Hope this explains my actions tonight. Take care

Only thing it explains is that you are attempting to get free advertising that is strictly forbidden on this forum and if your friend referred you to this site, then they were more than well aware of the guidelines as were you after the first advertising posting. Quite a few have tried this in the past and the only thing that occured was people turning against their business, but hey, if that is what you want, then advertise away.

Once should have been sufficient, shouldn't it? ;)

Sorry, Kaci, I posted my comment in the other thread before I read this one.
ETA: I guess my other comment still stands, I don't see anything wrong with a businessperson answering a question, but it certainly was not necessary for him to post the information that many times, and then to take offense when you tried to give him some helpful advice!
