Oh, by the way, not that it's a huge issue, but I do live closer to downtown Clayton than to 4042. (Specifically the Parkside Village Apartments)
I have been really pleased with Suntrust, which used to be CCB. I'll never again step foot inside a Wachovia/First Union...I have three disputes filed on my credit reports because of them.
When you decide on your new bank, why don't you get an over-draft account attached to your checking so you won't be charged any fees if a debit comes through and there's not enough money in your account to cover it? The bank only charges you interest on the amount you "borrow" if you don't repay them within a set time frame.
That has been suggested earlier in the thread. Not saying that Clif in particular can't get overdraft, but not everyone qualifies for it.
You can get this removed simply by calling or writing the three major credit reporting agencies, explain your side to them, they will in turn investigate by contacting Wachovia and if they don't get a response within 30 days this will be removed from your credit report upon your request. Worked for me several times.
I use RBC Centura for the last 6+ years, and haven't had any major problems. I know that DH has an account at BB&T still, and he as well as other people I work with have that same issue that you had with BoA, with BB & T. I can't speak for how RBC would have handled something like that, because I've only bounced a check with them once and lucky for me there was no domino effect.
There's a Coastal federal at 4042 and they just opened a new one in the White Oak Shopping center...beside Buffalo Wild Wings and Best Buy.
I did that, and all of the credit unions told me they would not remove the information, but would instead file my letter of dispute with my credit report.
About 3 years ago they had a *glitch* with their online bill pay - caused us to bounce checks. Made them write a letter to each company and explain what happened and that they were responsible for the bounced check fees. Another reason, I don't do online banking.
That happened to our office account too about 3 years ago... but it wasn't with on-line banking. It wasn't pretty and freaked us out pretty bad. They wrote the letters for us too and made good on all that happened. Wait we are talking about FO, right? <----Lost today.:?
I don't use an online bill paying service, I just go to each company's website if they have one. Click, click, all done. Never had a problem.
---------------- I did not read all the posts so I'm not sure if anyone suggested this but did you try calling the bank? Sometimes they will reverse the bounced check fees or at least reverse a portion. It's worth a shot. I bank with a credit union -- been with them since I was a kid and opened a savings account. Even though I haven't lived in NY for years, I still keep my accounts.
I've done the same thing, I've had an acct with a Federal C.U. up in Massachusetts since I was little, my dad opened them in our names ages ago. I keep enough in it to keep it open, and I just got a car loan through them last year, better rate than anyone around here would give. As long as I keep $5 in their acct... is all good! The company I work for now is able to split a direct deposit between several banks/accts. So I squirrel away $20/paycheck to that acct.. and it makes a great rainy day fund. Maybe if I can leave it alone this coming year, it will be a great xmas fund!
Yep, I have RBC, I've had them for about 10 years. I have online bill pay and pay all my bills through them. It's nice, because it's free and saves me from writing checks and paying for postage. No problems and I do have overdraft protection (which is really nice when it comes to emergencies-like a $4000 vet bill). I finally paid it all off...yippie!
I stopped banking with BOA for that exact reason. It is there number one money maker!! I now bank with Allegacy Federal Credit Union. They pay first in first out! People make mistakes.
