What do you all have for Christmas dinner? I'm sick of turkey and ham already. I fixed turkey at Thanksgiving, turkey and ham Saturday night for my side of the family, will have more of the same at DH's family get together on Christmas Eve. Then I'll cook for my immediate family on Christmas day. Can you guys give me some ideas??? Normally it doesn't bother me....but this year I'm thinking there is no way I can eat it again on Christmas day. Brenda
Christmas morning is always a brunch kind of thing, with breakfast casserole, coffee cake, etc....We have a spiral ham, but we also have stuff for pot roast or beef stew...we'll do one for Christmas, the other for New Year's Day. Probably will do the ham on Christmas...(New Year's Eve is family night...movies and make your own pizza until it's time to watch the ball drop...bubbly grape juice, hugs and kisses, then some of the neighbors go out and shoot off some fireworks)(unless the new guy threatens to shoot the neighbors too...:roll
On occassion we've had Chinese take out :lol: It was a treat not having to cook and being able to enjoy the day.
Well, in my home, Christmas Day is about my kids, so we stay home. I'll cook a honey ham, and some fixings. DH and I are taking vacation for 11 days, so we'll have a bunch of ham leftover for sandwiches. We have a rule (every since I had children) that we get together with all the family the Sunday before Christmas and we go out to eat and then come back to my house to exchange gifts. It works out great, because I just feel my children shouldn't have to go anywhere on Christmas day, they should be able to enjoy their new items from Santa.:mrgreen:
Brenda, We keep it simple here as there's enough chaos right after Christmas--LOL. It's lasagna Christmas Day. Now, this year the day after, we will have 28 people here. So that's when it's the 2 hams, breads, mashed potatoes, etc. Relax and pop in Ms. Stouffers! Stephanie--mom to 7
We do the exact same things for both holidays. What a small world. Sometimes we have kids and teens over for New Years Eve so the parents can go out and I can feel comfortable knowing where my teen is. Grace
Mom's cooking Christmas day, so not sure what it will be. Whatever it is, it will be AWESOME! My FIL will be here this weekend sometime. He will stay at my BIL's the first part of the week and then come here - guess who's gotta put a bed together? :? Not sure yet what I'm cooking. Several options. We are doing brunch this year Chiristmas day, since I work Xmas eve. And I think Lasagna later unles it had changed again.
Usually reindeer. Don't believe what you read, Santa has plenty of them to replace any weak ones that get picked off. Hey, you land on my roof, they're fair game! Seriously, my FIL usually cooks steaks on the grille...maybe some bratwurst and a salad. Really that's okay with me, because when we go to my folk's house, its more traditional like a ham and all the trimmings. Usually, my in-laws do Thanksgiving more traditional and grill out for Christmas.
Steaks with all the trimmings quick to cook and all enjoy. Have the simple fixins with it that don't have to stand over the stove .. ie, bake potatoe, sauteed mushrms/onions, salad, etc.
I started something new last year. My Mom cooks Thanksgiving and I started doing a Prime Rib dinner for Christmas along w/ baked potato and caesar salad. It's really an easy dinner and not time consuming as far as cooking and so DELICIOUS!

Thanks everybody!! It seems as if lasagna is the most popular. I love it but my DH doesn't like anything with pasta or cheese on it...yeah I know, he's not right!! He's a meat and potatoe kinda guy. So I ran up to Lowe's Foods on 50 at lunch and I'm having them do me up a prime rib roast. I've never cooked one before but found lots of recipes for them. Anybody got any good tips?? Brenda
