Being lazy, didn't feel like doing a search to find the old thread but anyway just wanted to let you all know that DH and i checked it out the other night and were very pleased.

First we went to the Oyster Bar on the Maggies side (DH loves some oysters) and he said they were great, i had a steamed shrimp meal and it was great too but the greatest news is that Gindy is BACK!!! Those of you that used to go to the Kros Nest will remember Gindy as the one running the Oyster Bar and she is doing that again. We were so happy to see her again. As for the rest of the menu, right now it is not a big menu but the prices seemed good and there was a choice for just about anyone.

After that we ventured over to Bottoms Up (the name is from an Irish Pub, not a strip club folks) and while it is still very much the same, it has been cleaned up, nice dance floor and band platform, and the bathrooms were nice and clean. There was a nice but small crowd but everyone seemed to be having a good time and there was no hint of any kind of trouble.

We were introduced to the new owners, Janet and Tommy, and they were very nice people and took the time to answer all my questions, listen to me rattle about our great 4042 area and explain their vision to me - i was very impressed.

As for the membership fee, of course i asked about that, and as of right now there is not one and they are waiting on the word from ALE whether they will have to charge one or not and if they do, then every member will be allowed to have 2 guests whenever they come in.

They seem to be trying very hard to be an asset to our community and i was impressed with their hardwork and their honesty. It has been Janet's dream to open a place like this and she is putting her all into it.

i wish them the best and i am sure DH and i will be going back soon.

we went last week..and stayed for about 5 minutes....waited to get seated as the sign said, but no one came. The band was a bit loud, for us...saw plenty of people at the bar (if that's the place to the right, as one enters the door.)

Believe me, I want to patronize local business as much as I'd like their business with us. That was why we joined the GCCC.

    Maybe it was just us...

    We may try it again....

Sorry about that, gotta remember they are still trying to find their sea legs:lol: Actually the bar you saw to your right is the Oyster Bar, the "bar side is through the opening straight back as you come in the door and through a door to the left.

Oh BTW, the kitchen does close at 10pm.

H6, i would give them another try, we all know how hard it is in the beginning of a new business, especially one that is trying to start over in an old neighborhood establishment.

Well you and my DH can have all you want - i just cannot develop any desire for oysters (but the desire they develop for my DH is always welcome;))

Oh yeah, the coleslaw was really good too and i am so picky about my coleslaw - it was very similar to Kevin's recipe.

I have to try the place. I loved the food at Kro's nest but found it to be a bit pricey! What night do they have live music?

    Question about bar

Are Janet and Tommy the same people who owned I Love This Bar or are they a different couple?

Yep same ones but they just owned the bar and sold it cause she really wanted a restaurant, not just a bar and per Janet, the dancing on the bar stuff was not their idea but one of the waitresses and i don't think they are trying to have that kind of place up here.

We tried it again tonite and again the food was great but the only concern i have is that i did not receive an itemized bill and the total i was given seemed a bit extreme no matter how i tried to figure it on my calculator (my brain as an accountant;)). Will have to make a call tomorrow to find out how they derived the total cause DH hates for me to bring attention to ourselves in public.:-D

Just so you know. They have their oysters delivered to another business and I was in that business last week 4 hours after they were delivered and the employees were talking about how they had called and left a couple messages for the owners to come pick up the oysters, but no one had. This was one of the days when it was 80 degrees outside. The employees also said that they were not even packed on ice.

Just be careful, because that can make you really, really sick.

    Kaci,
Do you actually put your drink in a real glass or are they still using those tiny plastic cups?
    I was just wondering.

It doesn't matter much, I heard they're already calling it quits in the ODS location.

Speaking of local places...I know McKinley's has received a bad rap from some. I had very seldomly received good service until last Wednesday night. We went for chicken quesidillias (sp) which are on special Weds. for 3.99 and happen to be my fave thing there. We had great service....food was great...just a good experience. I can't remember the server's name but he was male...not the tall guy, the shorter one. I'm not trying to get mess started again...I just believe in giving credit where credit is due.

I think since they've gotten rid of some of the waitstaff the service is better. Last time we went (been a while) we had the best service we had ever had.

I swear, I've tried everywhere, can't find anywhere that has wings as good as them, unless we make them ourselves.

I hadn't heard that. Did you hear anything about when this would happen?
    Are they moving somewhere else?
