My family and I haven't been to the Carolina Hurricane hockey game yet. We're thinking about getting some tickets this January. Questions for you 4042ers: *My child is a fourth-grader and I'm wondering if he'll enjoy watching the game? Is the game too rough for him, I mean, like people swearing and drinking alcohol surrounding him? I don't want him to get bad exposure from them. *Where do we find the best pricing for tickets? I checked Ticketmaster and they're charging over $150 per ticket - is that normal for all hockey games??? Any suggestion? *Best seat at the RBC center for better viewing and away from danger (flying pun - I hope I spell this right)???
Wow, you are a hockey virgin aren't you, It is a puck! Lots of drinking going on but on the whole I would say the fans are pretty well behaved and there are lots of 4th graders and he should have fun. On the ends typically have a net to keep pucks from going into the fans (If you can go for the "Attack" end). I typically go for the cheap seats up top (haven't made it yet this year).
Love me some Canes. as for the $150 tickets....they are club level center ice.....best you can get. Lower level ends can be had for as cheap as $45 a seat, while the nose bleeds can be had for $10 a seat. There is plenty of beer drank at the games and if it is a really good game (scoring/fights) then you will find that the people are a little more rowdy and boistious. Been 6 or 7 this year, and jump at every chance I get to go. Craig
While this site lists the cheapest as $20, I have seen often times tickets sold for $10, especially if you happen to catch a promotional night type thing where they are looking to pack the seats. http://hurricanes.nhl.com/team/app?service=page&page=NHLPage&bcid=rad61DD6 You might also want to keep an eye on this site as well. http://www.stubhub.com/carolina-hurricanes-tickets/ Craig

wow, the canes sure love thier fans! they're refusing to resign the lease on the rbc center unless their rent is cut from 3 mil a year to 2 mila year for 5 years. oh, and don/t forget we have to also spend 50 mil improving the building. so, that's "we'll stay if you give us 5 mil and spend 50". does anyone wonder why they left hartford? the first chance they get, they extort over 50 million dollars from us. screw em. they can leave http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/2196679/
Grew up here (on college basketball) and then married and moved to Ohio, where I was introduced first to baseball (snooze)...someone gave us tickets to a hockey game (minor league...can't remember if it was a Cincinnatti team or a Dayton team)...low scoring but high action...our kids were preschoolers and absolutely loved it! (I was just happy to see atheletes do more than spit and scratch). Take lots of cash to RBC...the concession stands don't take plastic and the food's pricey... Dress warm, it is an ice sport! (It's even cold out in the hallway)...
Heres an alternative idea... Fayetteville FireAntz - they are a minor league team (so to speak), they play at the Fayetteville Colliseum. Ticket prices are $8-$17, DH and I went a year or 2 ago... and had 2 center ice seats, a few rows off the ice for $30. It only takes about 45 minutes to get there, and was far less expensive than the 'Canes. They have a great mascot, a dance team between periods... food and drink are less expensive. I think we spent $50 total, 2 tickets, food & drink. You can't hardly buy a decent 'Canes ticket for that much. It was a little more of a redneck crowd - but it was a good time still. http://www.fireantzhockey.com/home.aspx
This is how I hooked my wife on the "Cincinnati Cyclones" most new folks will have more fun at the minor league games, once you get hooked then you go see the big boys.
Wow, thanks! Here's one more question: as far as seating goes, I'm having a hard time where is the safe place to sit and not getting hit by a puck. Having been to RBC before, all I know is that the lower level on the bottom starts with letter A. I need to know which letters to avoid.
Behind the goals going to the corners are nets in the lower levels are protected by a net. The upper areas and sides are not (don't forget the glass goes up pretty high). I typically sit in the upper areas and cannot remember a puck ever coming near me, unfortunately.
The upper level seats are still pretty good. We have sat in section 304 several times and can still see good. I think those tickets are around $25 but sometimes you can get cheap seats on game day at the box office. It is freezing in there, bring a coat! Every time we have been, there has been someone obnoxious sitting behind us~unfortunately it is usually a kid with parents that encourage their behavior!!
