I know of two in Raleigh but not any around here. One on Creedmoor Road and one on Capitol Blvd. You could call Sunshine Health Wellness Center and see if they know of one closer http://www.4042.com/4042ads/advertise/ad_dir_result.php?id=29.

Whole Foods on Wade Ave is nice. There's also one in Cary, on Waverly Place, but I haven't been to that one.

I went to the one on Creedmoor several weeks ago and I liked it. Can't think of the name of it now though. :x And I need to send DH by there today.

Kellbell, I'm looking for organic fruits and nuts & veggies. Also, Organic rolled and steel cut oats, etc. Also, spinach wraps. I heard Trader Joes has those but I've not been there yet.

I'm trying to make more healthy choices for our family's eating habits these days. My sister has really done a lot of research on the benefits of organic foods and she is sharing her knowledge with me.

And NOW...as you can see from my other thread, I'm looking for something to help my kids with their tummy aches.

Thanks for the store suggestions folks. Now...to find the time to go to Raleigh and shop.

GOOD FOR YOU! My kids don't eat hardly anything prepackaged or in a box/bag, stuff is horrible for all of us. Trader Joes or Whole foods if you drive into Raleigh are best bets. I also get alot of organic stuff from Harris Teeter (love the new giant one on 10/10 and 401) and they have a large variety of organic stuff throughout.

The new Lowe's at 50/42 has a semi-decent selection of organics if you are in a pinch.

Hmmm...thanks for that tip. I need to check out the organic section there. I'm not where I want to be with it yet, but I'm trying to add more and more healthy choices and take away more and more bad ones. My sister has really taken it all the way. No meat, no dairy and nothing non-organic. Also, all nuts, veggies, fruits she eats raw. She drinks lots of smoothies made from veggies and fruit and even hemp seed imported from Canada.

I've learned a lot but she is much more disciplined than I am. Every little change makes a big difference though, as Sis says. I'm wanting to get this book she read called the PH miracle. She said it really woke her up to how our bodies are made.

It is amazing the difference it makes. I have cut out all refined sugars and flours and its unbelievable. I can see it in my skin. The kids haven't missed a day of school for 2 years, weight is down for all (not that any of us were overweight), much more energy, sleep better.....there is absolutely something to the theory. I am not cutting out meat though. And we eat tons of fresh fish too, since DF fishes all summer (had some king mackeral steaks on the grill last night matter-of-fact). I want to live a long time, thats why I made the switch.

KellBell, you sound kinda like my Sis. King Mackeral steaks. Yummmm I bet that is really great.

Sis wants to live to be 100. I'm not sure about that. I DO, however, want to be healthy enough to play with my grandkids and maybe even my great grandkids. I feel it is a duty almost, to keep yourself as healthy as possible so your kids arent under 40 when you die like both of my DH's parents did.

Now, my kids have only my Mom and stepdad for grandparents. They have been kinda absentee grandparents. And 2 weeks ago, I found out my Mom has emphysema:cry: She is in denial, but she has been sick a while. She is only 66. DH's parents both died from emphysema (his Mom had other stuff too) when they were 68 years old. THAT IS JUST TOO DARN YOUNG! I don't want my kids and grandkids having to go through that because I am too lazy to try and take care of me.

I have MUCH more I need to be doing to keep healthy, but I am getting there - little by little:mrgreen:

My Dad is 73 and he looks and acts 45....doesn't take one pill for anything. Has never been sick a day in his life. HE has lived longer than anyone on his side of the family. He worked 42 years for Weyerhaeuser and never missed a day. never. He started working out/eating organic (natural) way back when he was the age I am now, 42, and I want to be just like him. Exercise and eat right simple as that. He passed that 'legacy' onto me and I am passing it to my kids. It surely can't hurt.

    :hurray:

Good for him and for you and even better, your kids. If only we all weren't so stupid in our teens and 20s and had started living healthy back then. We'd live to 150:lol:

Now...if I could only find a place to buy organic rolled and steel cut oats without having to go to Raleigh:?

Oh well, at least DH works in Raleigh.

Oh yeah, the store on Creedmoor is called Harmony Farms - nice place too.

I think if we all banded together and asked some of the local stores we could get more organic products carried. I have talked with the manager at LFs several times about the organic produce there-it looks old and limp and yucky. His response-"if more people would buy it it would be fresher." But I won't buy it if I can't eat it!

If you have a product you would like them to carry let them know-they will try it out. I got the LF's to carry the Horizon yogurt tubes for a while-like the go-gurts-but they are kinda hit or miss now.

I started eating more organic/natural foods after seeing the changes in my nephew when my sister changed his diet. He was allergic to dyes, artifical flavorings etc. He was like a new person without that stuff-more attentive, calmer, happier. I am definitely not close to 100% organic but I try the best I can.

    Count me in

I also try to eat as much organic as possible but just can't justify driving all the way to Whole Foods or Harmony Farms to get it every week. I was so excited when Harris Teeter opened up and had a great selection of organic produce - I had hope that people in our area understood why organic was important.

Now that LF has opened I prefer to go there because its so much closer. I just wish they had more organic products and fresher organic produce. I haven't talked to the manager because I always felt like I was the only one who wanted more choice. I would definitely be willing to band together now that I know there's more of us. I suspect more people would buy it if they knew it was fresh - what good is organic produce if its past its prime and has lost its nutrients?

Another option is the organic co-op down in Willow Spring - Hilltop Farms. Not sure if he's filled up for the season yet. I have yet to join because its too much produce for me to handle in a week. If I could do 1/2 co-op that would be perfect. Then its just a matter of finding organic produce during the winter months.
