Ah, but I didn't say that. You did. I was not using anybody to prove a point. I was merely sharing these posted comments to show what has been published in a local paper. I was not posting them as some sort of "proof" that I am right and others are wrong. To be quite honest, some people on this forum have brought up some really good points on both sides of the arguement. I don't think any one side is really "right". It really comes down to opinion. My post with from the N&O was not to lay claim to any sort of victory at all. It was done simply as further contribution to the discussion of the topic at hand. Dismissing it out of hand however without considering whether the points made have any merit just because a person lives 10 minutes away in Raleigh is a sad commentary on how narrow-minded some people can be when it comes to discussing such an issue. FWIW, I know several life long Carolinians that live in Cary and Chapel Hill. I think the stereotypical assumption that those areas are only populated with relocated Yankees and former west coast residents is a juvenile attempt to avoid a meaningful discussion of the merits or lack there of the points made. The fact they are made from residents in Cary or Chapel Hill and not JC residents is what is truly irrelevant and not the other way around.
As you should. I don't know of a lot BBQ places in the Five Points Hayes Barton Area of Raleigh either yet some NC residents have called that area home for all their lives. Rub's Smoke House or as it is known now as Smokey's Shack in Morrisville is pretty popular in those parts (Cary Area). But I guess you probably think nobody from NC lives in Morrisville either except for RTP tech nerds from CA. Next!
there used to be that place out hillsborough street on the left heading towards cary....my parents used to take me there as a kid....damn what was the name of it?
The End! Agreed! I will end my contribution to this thread with a favorite movie line of mine from the film "As Good As It Gets" : "Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City 'Sailor wanna hump-hump' bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here." ~ Jack Nicholson as Melvin Udall
I think this is the place you are speaking of DB...it's still there! Hillsborough Street Extension into Cary, on the left.....Ole Time BBQ http://www.oletimebarbecue.com/
i know parker's in wilson....not the same. this place i'm talking about quit selling barbecue 25 years ago. this other place may be in the same old converted little house, but it's not the same place it was in the 70's when i was a kid and we went there.
well being born in Raleigh I can assure you if there are any BBQ places in Cary that anyone attempts to name, they suck.
as another person born in raleigh, that place out hillsborough st towards cary was the closest decent barbecue we had back then. this was back when cary was a trailer park and a lumber yard... if we're talking about today, i agree with you
oh, i get your point now. thought you were testing us oldtimers on the name of a place in cary that somebody actually drove to to get some good barbecue. which actually used to exist in cary, when it was still a redneck depot as opposed to a snob-laden immigration station...
